  • this looks like a formula one car being prepared for the race : )

do you plan to have deep carbon wheels on it?

  • Hi, looking to replace the Dura-Ace with Campag 8 speed and a disc wheel, I already have an Athena group set so just need to find a rear disc.

    andy

  • This needs moar Mavic 3G

    Beautiful bike btw!

  • Really really nice. I know people usually do these period correct and not the point of the bike but I'd love to see one rocking Di2, drop bars and a pretty carbon wheelset.

  • ^this

  • Maybe not drops, but a modern group would be nice... But why Campagnolo 8 speed? When was this frame made?

  • Hi, this is a 91/2 frame here is an article from Wikki "In the early nineties, Look designed the revolutionary KG 196, the company's the first single-piece, monocoque carbon frame made of carbon, Kevlar, ceramic and aluminum. Being years ahead of its time, the KG186/KG196 featured sculpted aerodynamics, an integrated fork and steering tube, an adjustable stem, limited front suspension, and was designed for both road and track racing. The frame was extensively used by the ONCE cycling squad in the mid-1990s. This frame series has since evolved into the venerable KG x96 (KG 296, KG 396, KG 496, and 596) series of track bikes, used by numerous national teams around the world, as well as having its key innovative features widely imitated by other competitors years and decades later".

  • So after reading that I would keep the DA group and just stick a double mavic 3g or 3g+comete... or if you have a large wallet you could try to fit a modern group, maybe Di2 as said before, but please don't put drops on this ;)

  • oh god, 3G + Comete!

  • Saw this on the bay - pretty good deal considering the condition and lustre of the paint/graphics.

I did have an OG catalogue shot of the 196/186 pages - IIRC the 186 was slightly more robust/heavier version of the 196, (going through a build myself over here
    http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/252183/)

  • Hi, yup with the Dura-ace and new profile tt bars I was not going to let it go, these frames are going for £400/450.00 in poor condition. I was watching your build a while back how far along are you?

    Andy

  • ^(Sorry, I should have apologised for an attempted thread derail ;) )...Not much further forward tbh. Still having sleepless nights (figuratively) about the wheelset choice - it's one of 3 major projects on the go and happy to build it at a slower pace.

    Here's the catalogue I mentioned...

  • I love it, it has the same essence as the Lotus TT bike :)

  • ^^ I was considering a single front chain-ring around 54 deep carbon rear and an older aero front to keep it somewhat retro, quite like the spinergy wheels of death, I'm never going to race it so they should hold up ok,ish.

  • Just been playing with wheel and bar choices going with the Mavic and Modolo combo and still unsure about the front wheel. Looking to keep a retro thing going not sure if the deep carbon Hed works with the front.

  • do you have a pic with the hed front in? i think it looks great. if they are a matching pair.. retro gtfo, heds are perfect. if you don't like 'em, get the mavic 3gs on here ;)

  • Hi, yeah I looked at the 3g on here, they appear to be screw on freewheel, so 8 speed would be max where I'm running 10 speed Dura Ace. Also the 8 speed screw on type freewheel was known to stress the hub and axle, if I'm wrong on this please let me know

    Andy

  • I've got a suplus rear HED3 Clincher Wheel, with 10 Speed shimano hub - VGC

  • Just seen this. Looks 'mazing.

  • Hi, is that yours? I have been thinking about a single chainring as I like the look of the curves coming down the ST. Decided to keep the Hed rear and go with an older Cosmic Carbone SSC for the front. Will post some more pics at the weekend.

    Andy

  • not mine, found that on pedalroom and left it here for inpiration

  • Inspiration?

    .

  • It's mine. Just found this post in Google. Still waiting for Comete for rear!
