There we go. Had to commit to cutting the steerer at some point. Left plenty of length and using spacers until I get my position sorted (won't know until I've ridden it on the track). Gives me plenty of room for adjustment. Just narrowly avoided deciding to use an adjustable stem...
Tb25 rims, formula hubs. 7600 cranks. Piega bars.
Total cost for frame, forks (new) and wheels was £320. Already had the rest.Pretty happy with that.

My Graham Weigh is finished. Built up as a budget road bike I can use for longer rides. Thanks to Roboto for printing the graphics.

Prefer your new graphics to the original weigh, much classier.

so i've polished up a pair of ally cranks and stripped a dodgy paint job from a steel frame leaving me with bare metal and possible corrosion issues in the future
when people say they clearcoat a frame what exactly do they use ? is it a varnish type thing ? is there a special metal " varnish ", would wd-40 on a cloth be enough ? nice bit of olive oil rubbed into the lugs ?
what should i use ? -

decent bait

top work! so the custom ring slides over the gusset spacer? is there no play at all in the system? like from the pins being slightly smaller than the flange holes or the grub screws smaller than the gusset spacer holes.

carnauba car wax worked really well for me on a pair of stripped cranks. held up well over a copenhagen winter on my daily bike. you can get small test tubs for cheap.
I'm going to try it on some raw bits on a steel frame soon, but that's a summer bike so not much of a test. -

I used a matte montana spray varnish once, kept the rust away pretty well and I was quite happy with the matte look..

I went to halfords and bought a spray can of clear spray paint that you'd use as the top coat. It held up fine. Obviously it rusts a bit underneath and discolours over time, so you need to keep an eye on it. But mine is an old 531 track frame that's fairly tough. I wouldn't ever raw anything that's made from decent tubing unless you want to have to baby it.
IMO although clear coating takes a bit more work at the start, it is easier than having to constantly wipe or oil it to make sure you avoid rust marks on your clothes.

Nice Gaston, but it seems a bit short for you, n'est-ce pas? ;)
Because it's a classy frame, which was probably a custom job, with some decent stuff on . Adding drops and white tyres isn't enough to downgrade it to "beater".
As long as it's being ridden... why should I care anyway...
