+1 on the foam roller. They hurt but it's a really nice pain.
For anyone interested in my back pain the other day, I ate an oreo brownie (omfg so good) and then fell asleep on the train with my knees wedged against the seat in front. Woke up in Manchester with someone hitting me in the face with a bag and my back pain was all gone and hasn't returned. OREOS ARE MAGIC.

IT band stretches & a roller might help though.
You might even find that a stretch & a roll means you don't even need to rest up.

We have a foam roller in the gym at work so I've been using since the last half marathon (before any pain started) after runs so will continue to do so.
They hurt but it's a really nice pain
If you define "I might actually have to stop and have a cry" as "really nice" then yeah, I can see what you mean.
You might even find that a stretch & a roll means you don't even need to rest up.
I won't have time to run over the weekend anyway so will be taking a couple of days off running either way.

Stopping to have a cry every now and then is my number one tip for life. Sometimes the only thing that's going to make you feel better is a little cry. Or oreos.

Cadbury's chocolate mini rolls work for me. Usually before a run but more often consumed on non-running days.

Anyone doing the 10k in Victoria Park tomorrow? Its my first proper race & I'm slightly bricking it now.
-
• #9585
go for it, youll be ok,
get in the start bunch around similar paced people and dont blow up by going off too fast!
you can always beat your own p.b, even if no one else -
• #9586
Cheers mate, think theres around 500 people so I should be able to beat some of them. I've never timed a 10k before so I don't have a pb yet, but tomorrow I will!

No mud as it's been so dry! Just as well as I don't have the shoes for proper mud. Hills though... It was pretty tough (no PB for me!) and I did regret having such a big breakfast once or twice but I really enjoyed it and definitely want to do more crosscountry.
I got there really early as I didn't realise there was another race beforehand and was hanging about feeling lonely when I spotted @Bernie. Always a pleasure to see that man.
Also, epic prizes for finishing! Tshirt, medal, sweets, banana, hat, bag, towel, other assorted stuff. Amazing.

the race is two weeks later in april next year so i've assumed we'll hear 2 weeks later than this year. I got my thing through sept 26 last time.

Wondering if I can find a running style which won't aggravate the soft tissue around the ligatures of my wrist (which are currently fucked and quite sensitive to being shaken around). Maybe if I run with my arms held rigidly above my head...

There's an interesting piece on the 10yr anniversary of Parkrun. Unfortunately it is in the d*ily m*il so no link but if you want to read it you know where to look.

nice work runners
need a new thread 'tell us about your weekend run' ;)
got a first in the forest today, dont get too excited it was only 3.5 k but it was furrowhopping extreme. -

1st, nice you earnt your beer!
Fantastic 15k along the beach today as last long run prep for half-Mara next Sun. No niggles, held desired pace easily. Felt like when cycling fixed in a weird way, where it feels easy and fluid.

Just read Steve Way's race report for the 2014 Ultravasan 90km race - http://www.steveway.co.uk/?p=1439
@_Leon sounds like he might need to consult you for some trail tips if he wants to win it next year. -

Just a thought; if anyone here is riding fixed / brakeless, have you noticed a detrimental affect on your knees causing problems for running?

I replaced the battery in my (non gps) hrm today. It cost £2 for the battery (cr 2032) and will hopefully remain at least splash proof if not 50m resistant. No aqua jogging here.
Will be interesting to have a number showing vs general rpe whilst running to work on Weds.

Buy a foam roller. Can normally pick up cheapo ones for less than £10.
I usually give my legs a once-over after a run and you can use it to release tension in the the IT-Band.
