so i've polished up a pair of ally cranks and stripped a dodgy paint job from a steel frame leaving me with bare metal and possible corrosion issues in the future
when people say they clearcoat a frame what exactly do they use ? is it a varnish type thing ? is there a special metal " varnish ", would wd-40 on a cloth be enough ? nice bit of olive oil rubbed into the lugs ?
what should i use ?
carnauba car wax worked really well for me on a pair of stripped cranks. held up well over a copenhagen winter on my daily bike. you can get small test tubs for cheap.
I'm going to try it on some raw bits on a steel frame soon, but that's a summer bike so not much of a test.
