nice one, isnt the tecnos the rare brother of the master ?
-
• #454
I'd say it's the slimmer,. better looking and altogether livelier younger sister. I am looking at mine right now.

Isn't the downtube the big difference? Big one for the Tecnos, smaller one for the Master?
It's the ex-bicycle of Tom Steels by the way, looking forward to build it up again.

Does anyone know the most authentic fork one could purchase for a C96? What rake were they designed for? What would be the best carbon option?
I'm on the lookout for something for a 55cm frame... 190 mm plus steerer if threadless (ideally more like 195 or 200 mm plus). More like 165 mm plus if threaded.
1" just to be clear. Not 1 1/8th.

The rake is 43mm. Time did a skinny carbon fork that looks good on steel Colnagos.

technos was the last and lightest steel frame produced, before the 30th anniversary master

I still love the master overall

the Nuovo Mexico was the Master precursor, I think the Technos was designed to be used by riders of a certain weight

colnago rabobank decor dream cx and colnago dual cx, dual now sold, the dream is great fun
this is a colnago dual roadbike someone in the USofA sent me pictures of , but they would not ship the whole bike to europe, possibly because of what I offered them

In my experience there is a certain 'je ne sais quoi' about Colnagos. They ride lush, even the cheaper ones.
That said Colnago C96 vs Coppi Reparto Corsa. Identical size, both Columbus Thron, both fitted with identical Carbon Forks. How on the ball a rider would you have to be to tell them apart in a blind test?

the dual , carbitubo mono carbitubo were made by alan, so on those grounds, i have allowed a waif and stray alan into my stable
the dream cx has paint dropping here and there, so i contacted someone who used to work with the rabobank team, and am awaiting confirmation regarding getting it re done in the same decor, if not, i may clear powder coat the frame to secure the remaining colours -

i sold it Pat the day after I got it, was a tad too small, rode it home and around the block the following day ,vendor used to compete on it back in the day, was real Gent, quite a rare piece though, it's in germany i think now,was a collaboration betwixt colnago and alan (appols for repeating an earlier post, groundhogish?), and i heard that alan cx's can have fork problems, the dual would also be susceptible to the same fate that befalls alans, cracked head tube lugs due to vibration, and alans are meant to be noodly, that said, i have an alan rescue project i will allow into the stable because of the colnago linage (alan also contributed to the carbitubo/monotubo models) and keep as a rat type bike, hoping to run 8 speed integrated shifters on a triompe gruppo with it, the dream cx is a lot more robust, and i've enjoyed smashing round town on it this last month, off road it's great, took it on the horse trails on wimbledon common and it just kept going, i'd didn't have to get out of the saddle until ascending, i highly recommend that particular model

on the subject of alan/colnago collab's, completed sourcing the da 7401 group for this (including da stem!) bar the seat post as it's sod to find the right size,so have a suntour superbe pro one, and will get nitto bars, full jap shizzle, rare piece, never seen a mapei gb decor mono carbitubo other than this
i fixed the torn tt cable guide with a written off alan super record
i'm thinking of masking frame and taking it to a nail salon as they use airbrushes and are used to working on small areas,if we can get the right colours going on ,my own efforts to paint the guide with enamel have not satisfied my ocd-ness, also, non drive side carbon stay has wear from an ill fitting wheel, i took to a reputable lbs in the Netherlands where the wrenches are my friends, and we did an impromptu test for stiffness, the manager said he thought it was still fine, debating on filling it

Saarf, you should see the roads I go down here in Ireland on the Super!
Holding up exceptionally well all the same. Although I'm rebuilding at the moment, planning on posting a pic when I get the Headset cups off and I give the paint a dose of Paint care, Wax and Chrome cleaner. -
