If you saw that viral 'crap cyclists' video which was doing the rounds a while ago then you will have seen how crap the cycling is in York (filmed here), but even after 7 months I am regularly surprised by the utter, utter, dogs hit cycling on display.
Things that I see every day:
Red light jumping nodders,
'Fixie' riders, brakeless without foot retention (it's more rare to see bikes with foot retention than without...),
And the worst thing, which has encouraged me to post here...
Families riding on the pavement.
York is VERY well set up for cycling. It's possible to get many places on closed cycle lanes, and other places on roadside cycle lanes. Far, far better than any other UK city. And yet Every. Single. Day. I see families riding on busy pavements.
It's as if the parents don't realise that teaching their precious snowflake that riding on the pavement is ok is feeding the anti-cyclist sentiment that leads to road rage against law abiding bike users.
It infuriates me that these people are being so fucking selfish, and I say that as a parent. If I go for a ride with my son in the future and we need to use a busy stretch of road then we will get off and fucking walk.
Cunts.
Sorry. Long day of people swerving round the pram that I was pushing on a fucking pavement.
