I thought the way I phrased it covered the explanation. Part fashion, part the inability of MAMILs to ride in positions which people who do 30000km a year are happy with (see the trend for long head tubes for further evidence), part the malign influence of people who insist on going for a jog at the end of their time trial.
In what way? If you really mean ergonomics, perhaps what you're asking is more "why are the ergonomics of a TT bike designed for a professional cyclist in the 1980s different from a TT bike designed for a MAMIL triathlenger in 2014?"
