the tape was to provide tighter grip on the bottles by decreasing internal diameter, not structurally reinforce anything. they're still going strong, problem free. £5 china carbon jobbies, and the roubaix is the only time they've faltered. once grit and water gets between bottle and cage though they do get a bit messy :/
my carbon Look ones are shit at holding bottles and they were £££, and even the fancy steel ones on the tandem chuck a bidon every now and again. -

chuck a bidon
no, you chuck a bidon

tl; dr. those lightweight ones are hideous.
you could always dodge the question and go for vincero design edge 16.
Or a camelbak.

I know, how about I just stick with the ones that are on there!
-
• #331
THIS IS NICE!!! How stable is this though?

Elite or nothing
-
• #334
Difficult to get a bottle out of an Elite cage, given the brown paper bag you have to put over it to protect peoples eyes from them.
-
• #335
Oooh, bottle cage burn from Neil there!
-
• #336
It's true, they are a bit grim. But those king cages are also minging. These are way better.
-
• #337
Those are way too fussy. Nice thing about the King cages is how simple they are- very elegant design.
-
• #338
I never thought that one bottle cage could be better than another.
Then I bought a King.

just let bidons be bidons...
sorryanyway, I don't see whats wrong with the ones on there. The bike is looking excellent.

• #341
This bike looks fucking badass

Amazing work by all involved.
FWIW the smud Cages are tough to live With. As you ride the vibration forces the bottle tightly into the Cage. You then need to wiggle it out carefully. Because they arent built for big twisting forces. Not so bad if you keep them clean. But if you put any kind of carbs in Your water. Youre screwed. During my styrkeproven ride I punched mine to snap them. They just pissed me off.
Arundrel for me I reckon.

Have you seen it?
Everybody has seen it but me! -
• #344
All this talk of cages, and you can barely even see them when there are bottles in them.
Aside from the gold chain, bike is shit hot, would hang on a wall and not even feel bad about not riding
-
• #345
fuck bottle cages, where's the money shot of this build?
-
• #346
I love how the last 2 pages have been all about bottle cages. Can't wait to see this on Sunday.
-
• #347
on something this spendy, you know every detail has been planned....
-
• #348
I bought king cages today on the strength of seeing them with DA9000 on this build. Walked to the till with titanium, had second thoughts, swapped them for stainless steel at the last moment. Cool story bro.
-
• #349
The Ti ones are so chunky/ugly, I have no idea why anyone buys them over SS.
-
• #350
I liked the source of the titanium - thought it was fun to have bottle cages made from aircraft hydraulic line.
Lush!!!
