I'm late to the party for the mudguard debate, but would like to add my tuppence that the "don't draft" argument is bollox. On the right road surface with a favourable wind some tyres throw out a 20ft rooster tail of unavoidable scum water. Also, you're always going to get the odd full kit wanker overtaking you at 0.05 mph closing speed before tucking in a few inches in front of your front wheel and showering you with grey water.
