Rethinking urban transportation

This is work related for me, in a third-party kinda way...

  • "we ride the same, archaic bicycles to and from work every day, disconnected from our environment and ourselves"

    EH?!?!

  • This website is a bit confused and confusing to be honest.
I have no idea what the product is.

    Is it the bike?
Is it this app that is vaguely referred to and doesn't describe what it does...?
Is it a service of some sort?
Is it a combination of some of these things?

No where does it state what this VanHawk thing is.

Yet there is a tech spec for a bicycle, which holds no relation to the one pictured.
    Most curious.

The only thing it does definitively state is the "we ride the same, archaic bicycles to and from work every day, disconnected from our environment and ourselves"
    Which is utterly false.
To describe the commuting machines I see each morning as archaic is a non starter.
And as for cycling being something that is "disconnected form our our environment and ourselves"... just horseshit.

  • ha was about to type that
it's such a cutting edge website they don't even let you know what they're selling ... it must be good
bike on the website straight to anti

  • a feathery friend to replace the small scruffy dog hanging out the window of your van?

  • The only thing it does definitively state is the "we ride the same, archaic bicycles to and from work every day, disconnected from our environment and ourselves"

  • A bike / app / widget (whatever the fuck it is) that does a lot of things either mediocrely or plain badly, encourages bad practices, and wraps it up in a load of wanky brain-dead creative speak?

Shut up and take my money!

  • It's not an application - it's built into the bike itself.

  • Sorry @The_Kindness_of_Trees, by a third party kinda way maybe you mean you are one of the funders listed...? So it isn't my intention to piss on your chips.

It is not my intention to rubbish the idea, it is more that the idea is not articulated anywhere and so the website is confused/confusing and appears to be style over substance where there is a poorly thought through statement and a list of people it took to came up with it.

Maybe you could give us the basics of the offer/product?

  • Ha Ha - no, not all. The company I work for has been approached by VanHawk because they want to use some of the small components we sell - it's boring stuff.

As such, I'm reluctant to offer an opinion on the project - suffice to say, I like my cycling kept simple.

  • Make sure they give you the money up front.

This looks like yet another bullshit kickstarter scam. As WjPrince says, the bike spec list is a completely different bike to the one shown. And the one shown is fucking hideous and looks broken (what the fuck is going on between the fork and headtube?).

And this guff about archaic bikes not connected to the environment? Seriously, fuck off VanShitehawks.

  • when you are cycling you should concentrate on the traffic and other road users rather than on the incoming fax and all the tech gadgets attached to your bikes

just look at all the idiots walking down the street texting without looking where they are going,
imagine the carnage on hipster highway as people are concentrating on " liking " their friends breakfast muffin on their face book app built into the downtube, rather than watching that U turning taxi cab

and those avid bb5 / bb7's are well hidden

  • i presume they are offering a facebook app on the downtube
