Allen nut skewers are actually not as good as a decent QR. It's a tricky to get them tight enough and and you risking slipping and damaging them.
Just use a skewer as described above. You could try grip washers perhaps, but I doubt you'll need them. I got 39x24 (a climbing gear) working on chromed dropouts.
