those frames are well nice.
but they can fuck off with their 160mm HT on XL frame.

Well I had my first outing on the Pomp today and it wasn't exactly successful..... The bike itself is nice to ride, it feels light(ish) and reasonably nimble. The problem was the rear wheel would slip anytime I put some sort of power down, usually when I was out the saddle on a gradient. My other SSCX bikes have all had track nuts and I've never had a problem. It was that bad I broke a skewer by over tightening it... How do folk solve the issue with normal QR skewer rear wheel? Is there a 135mm solid axel available?

Use a decent, closed cam QR such as any Shimano (from Tiagra upwards) or Campagnolo. It will work, I've done it and I put out #awesomepower

Ok, average power.

Rode my tarck bike up Parkland Walk from Finsbury to Ally Pally in the pishing rain on friday. Rizla clearances, no sealed bearings, 20c tyres and 2 broken spokes(killed them in the morning, need to replace asap).
Slid around all over the place and now need to completely service my bike but totally worth it. -

I tried two seperate skewers. The first being a cheap alloy number and the second being an old school shimano number that feels like it's made from lead. Neither worked? Is there a better alternative to a QR? Have you tried the Allen nut skewers? I doubt they'd work either tbh

Use a chaintug
-
• #2363
Allen nut skewers are actually not as good as a decent QR. It's a tricky to get them tight enough and and you risking slipping and damaging them.
Just use a skewer as described above. You could try grip washers perhaps, but I doubt you'll need them. I got 39x24 (a climbing gear) working on chromed dropouts.

What's a chaintug? Sounds sexual.... Can I get arrested for using it in public? ;-)
-
• #2365
Did you break the Shimano skewer @blacklisted ?
I've only seen that happen once. It fired 50 metres and into an estate agent's window. It could have killed someone!
:-)

• #2366
No the shimano one didn't brake, it was the cheap alloy one.
How tight do you tighten them? Would you suggest using a hollow bar for leverage?
-
• #2367
I don't even know how that would work.
How tight? Tighter, obviously! Have faith.

• #2368
Cheers man! I'll give it a try.

The mind boggles at the possibilities

^^^ this, I use an old Campagnolo QR on my Pompetamine, as hard as I can close it with my hand. No slipping, and I'll bet I'm a lot heavier than you
-
• #2371
blacklisted I have one of those exact chaintugs going spare if you want? I had it on a Pompino and it worked fine.
-
• #2372
Thanks, but I actually just bought a set off eBay before I seen your post
I'll try the chaintugs and a decent skewer tighter than I'm comfortable with then... Cheers guys
