Porlock HC this sunday - I know @Borek and @TDOdan are on the start list - anyone else on here going for it?
http://www.porlockhillclimb.co.uk/info.htm
4.2 miles at 5% average
I would be very surprised if Tejvan and Wendy Houvenaghel don't take it again...
Hoping to beat last years time of 17.08...

Why do hill climbs get much bigger prize pots?
-
• #7554
They don't normally - this is an exception as they have been organised in getting sponsorship for the race - normally prize funds are from entry costs instead just like any other TT. Apparently there is even a start ramp!
It is also closed road as its run on the Porlock toll road - again very unusual.

The Bec and the Catford HC's also have larger than normal prize pools don't they?

That's 4 hill climbs that pay over the odds. Lazy bastards only have to ride a few minutes!

Get thin and win?

Got to love a 2 hour drive to race for such a short amount of time. Porlock should be fun on fixed though!
Tejvan was smashing it last weekend so will most probably take another win!
-
• #7560
Also the start ramp they've made sounds like a challenge!
-
• #7561
Yeah, although porlock is one of the longest hcs. Should be good for fixed as it's mostly a constant gradient.

Get thin and win?
Got the thin part down.... Need to work on the winning :p

Porlock hill climb was a tough race! Managed 17.32 on a slightly longer course than last years! 65" felt like a good choice for me. @Borek smashed it but shame about the time penalty for a late start! Tejvan destroyed the field with a win by over a minute at 14.11.
Now for some more hill reps and detox dieting!

Lord knows what my time was today. Got given 45 mins initially despite catching minute man before half way who did a 21... Then given a 16.09 which would have put me top 5 ( way too quick) then corrected to 18.20.... Pretty sure I was on a 17 though. stupidly didn't start garmin until after a mile. Will have to check the GPS files tomorrow when I am on my laptop.
Good work Dan and borek!

Yup... Bristol South rider on the start ramp. Is the picture showing? If not there's a FB gallery here:

Hounslow Autumn Club 25
I'm pleased with this picture. In a way it's a pity Mark (on the trike) has a helmet and clip on bars, otherwise it would look like one of those Patterson ancient and modern drawings.
There is a report, but I'm not sure it's interesting enough to post here.
