Ti bikes really that different

  • I am curious about this, are they really that different to ride compared to a good steel bike, or is the geometry and the type (thickness of the Ti) more important?

  • It's lighter first of all

  • steel > titanium

  • Not so simple, depends on geometry, intended use, and who builds it.

  • I ride a gorgeous Titanium Lynskey which I love. I also have an 853 Ribble which because of its build is lighter, also gorgeous but different. And an old aluminium Ridgeback which is an entirely different sort of ride. I think the geometry and indeed the build have more impact on the bike than whether it is ti or steel.

  • Painting titanium is a crime or something so if you dislike that titanium colour you have first world problems or something.

  • Bollocks

If I were to get another Ti frame I'd get it painted silvery grey just for the fuck of it.

  • Not so simple, depends on geometry, intended use, and who builds it.

Don't confuse this with your logic.

  • Snot that different to nice steel in terms of springiness and flex, if you want a painted bike get steel, if you like grey get Ti. Just don't get crabon or aluminum.

  • DJ's paint scheme plan #rep

  • My titanium fixed is "really that different to ride" in comparison with other bikes because it's not the same bike as those bikes which are different bikes so it lacks the innate sameness that's specific to each of the other bikes of differing object status while maintaining its ownness to which none of the different bikes could seek to emulate.

In retrospect, it's definitely been a bike, which is at least half the battle.

  • If you consider the law of excluded middle, a Ti bike can only be different, or absolutely identical.

So, you know, they must be different, in that sense.

  • Ti is 'it' backwards, and titanium contains the word 'tit'. Those in themselves are signifiers of uniquinessivity.
