  • Ah cunning - but no QR on the back. I've managed to bodge it onto the rear fork over the top of the bundle of rubbery wrap for the mudguard. Kinda works (until it swings into my rear spokes and causes disaster :/ )

  • If no qr, you must be able to get something similar for the axle. Stunt pegs?

  • ooh, yes that should work!

  • Does anyone know what the 3-LED light that pulses brighter every now and then is? I rode past a guy using one and it stood out quite a lot. A race I might do has a requirement for a 3-LED, solid (no flash) rear light.

  • They do and are available at pretty much most bike shops these days. There is a solid mode although that hurts battery life quite a bit IIRC.

  • The review on Amazon seemed to indicate they're a bit shit, especially for mounting on an aero post. I might just end up going with one of those long Cateye types that everyone seems to have owned at one stage.

  • The Moon Comet is a damn nice rear light that is visible at a distance and searingly bright close-up.

    It's also cheap.

I bought one recently and I'm impressed with it. Similar story of seeing it on other people's bike and thinking it was awesome.

If you like Amazon reviews, it's pretty much all 5-stars:

Except for the one guy who somehow soaked it so totally that he got water inside it. Not sure how this is possible, it's survived every downpour I've ridden in (admittedly not many since I purchased it, but I don't shy away from the wet and didn't have fenders on that particular bike on those days).

If I had the money I'd probably go for the Hope tail light. But I don't, and the Comet seems to be incredible value for money for what it is.

  • The only issue with moon comet is the shitty mount it comes with. Broke mine twice already. When will manufactures learn that making a plastic latching mechanism is a bad idea if its going to get used twice a day.

  • I like mine but it is my bag light. Main light is a long cateye thingy

  • Mine's still doing fine. I did wonder though, as people had mentioned that, whether the standard Cateye mount would work for it. It looks like it's the same dimensions and that would mean a very cheap part would be a sturdy replacement.

  • Planetx do the Areo Shield which is the Euro version of the moon for half the price

  • No battery life issues? @amey? Praps I have a dodgy one :/

  • No issues apart from the mount .. my latch is broken already so if I have to take the light off the mount I have to use a screwdriver or something. Great light shit mount. Similar to Moon Shield.

Exposure ticks all the boxes for me.

  • "30 chips high brightness red Led"

Needs to be a 3 LED unit though.

  • Rear lights... My Knog Boomer has died again but is now out of warranty. I want massive (USB rechargeable) battery life, an easy to use clamp (preferably integrated into the light) and sideways visibility. Around the £20-25 mark. Current favourites are another Knog Boomer, or the newer Knog Blinder 4v.

Any other suggestions? I looked at Moons but they all seem to have pathetic battery life, my old Boomer lasted nearly 24h on flashing mode, most lights out there seem to manage nearer 7.

  • I have often fantasized about casting that much light in my wake. I have the Vision 1 on front but just can't bring myself to faff with cables. I'm too lazy.

  • You have just solved my cluttered bar problems thanks

  • The complaint about the Lezyne Micro Drive rear is that it's USB recharged. So when it's out; it's out! That has caught me out more than once on long ride.

What has worked better are a pair of Smart Light Lunar 35's on the front. On flashing, the pair of lights apparently are more visible in traffic than one flashing light (per unsolicited vox pop comments). And being rechargeable battery powered, in an emergency, there are usually recyclable batteries to be found.

  • What kind of race insists on 3 LEDs?!

Do they specify only one light too? Get a cheap shit 3 led light from china for requirements and also carry what ever rear you'd like to use?

  • That option crossed my mind and has the advantage of redundancy but I thought I'd investigate nice 3-LED options first.

  • Does anyone have a Knog Blinder Road R? It looks like a decent light to replace my knackered Exposure Flare, but the USB charger on the back looks like it would be a nightmare to actually use?

  • Horribly shitty integrated mount; missus broke one in about 2 weeks. Avoid like plague. Just get another (latest) flare.

  • Just get another (latest) flare.

    get a tracer
