Take a V-brake noodle for the last bit and saw it down to the length you need? that way you can do a very tight turn.

Hackney Marshes, obviously.

Recently bought a frame and the forks steerer tube has been extended, because of this there is a sleeve inside the steerer which only allows me to insert a stem 3"
Obviously this leaves the top of the stem too high and it looks crap, any suggestions?

Will acetone remove the decal from a H+SON Archetype (whilst leaving the anno okay)?

Anyone tried one of these handlebar phone mounts. Looks to get decent reviews but I'd have some concerns about how secure it is
http://www.getfinn.com/I've used one of these since christmas to put ny phone on when i'm
strava-ing around the countryside, its always been great. makes you
wonder how garmin etc are still in business....Who can suggest a waterproof Iphone case/pouch to go with it?

If I were to dual-purpose a bike (track and road), what's the best way to do it? Is switching the fork/bars (with wheel and brake attached) regularly likely to damage the headset?
-
• #63358
The headset will be fine as long as you always adjust it correctly after every swap. For just riding to the track, the easiest method is a cross-top style brake lever with a hinged clamp, then it's just the lever clamp screw and the caliper fixing nut to undo to make the switch, and you don't have to carry anything else to the velodrome.

@Dramatic_Hammer not easily, road bikes have gears so front+rear mech and all the junk that goes with them.
You could use something like these to add gears onto a track bike but thats the smallest of the changes.
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/dmr-chain-tugs-mech-hanger/rp-prod249
2 back wheels - one fixed/track and one for gears
cables and mech adjusting - constantly having to recable/uncable and adjust mechs, not to mention whatever track frame you start with won't have holes for cables so you need to bodge them to fit and bodge them well so the track aren't angryBest off just buying 2 bikes and/or going single speed and using a brake you can unbolt and hinged clamp brake lever(s)

Trying to figure out which bike an Edinburgh courier is using, I thought it was a Pompetamine but after checking the On-one website I see this frame doesn't have a derailleur hanger. Is there a similar frame that does? Also would these be any good for light touring?

On-One have a number of slot-dropout and sliding-dropout designs. Any more details?
-
• #63362
Thanks, I was sort of under the impression that I'd need very clean tyres for the track though (and so require a spare wheelset)?
I live so close to LVV that I could just carry the bike there, it's more that I don't want to ride around brakeless, I don't think the [potential] fork is drilled and I have a spare road fork...
-
• #63363
I already have a geared bike (well two actually) but fancy a fixed for general tooling about and taking to the velodrome... I'm always up for more bikes but I'm sure it will go down well at home!
-
• #63364
Assuming you have a drilled fork, you can use a cross-top or "Dirty Harry"-style lever with a caliper brake, you'll only need to undo 2 allen keys to remove it and a pair of wheels is reasonably transportable on a courier bag.

Not really unfortunately, I will try to ask him the next time I see him. Although he is 100% running standard road bike sram gearing, it has the square wishbone rear stays like the pomp too

Kaffenback?

Any alternative to/reason to avoid Tektro RL340 brake levers for sons first fixie?
(I know, I know, brakeless is keeping the true faith,
but Mrs Mespilus is of the n= -1 fraternity,
[never had a bike as a child],
and will go apeshit if it turns up without any brakes). -
• #63368
If he's a little'un, then the RL341 has a slightly shorter reach. I used the older version of these for a while on my old tourer, were very reliable, and had a nifty little QR button which makes wheel changes easier with v-brakes.

@ chiroshi
Thanks for the recommend,
but,
he's 14 this week, 5'8" and 60 kgs so I think he can handle the normal reach.Guess I should have also asked for cable recommendations as well.
Jagwire? or is rhere something of equivalent quality at a lower price? -

Where has shimano HG95 chain in stock near Kew?
-
• #63371
Also, any suggestions for a car wash in the same area.

Is the one that pulls your car though on Chiswick Roundabout not there any more?

I think it has closed

friend of mine wants a singlespeed/fixed bike but not a conversion. new or used track frame should do, but I don't want to drill.
so:
what are the best option(s) for a (new) simple steel track-ended brake-drilled* singlespeed/fixed frameset - like my On-One Macinato that has apparently gone out of sale?
asterisk: calipers, not discs or cantis plz

Why is it when I switch to SPD's from cages I'm less comfortable in the saddle?
It's already a 160mm. Not sure i want anything bigger on there...
I could try routing using the zip tie as Dammit suggested as well but it's ugly as fuck.
