  • Dunno I'm listening to Captain Ganja and The Space Patrol
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBV2xrvef80

  • I need a converter to plug a digital sound source into an analogue amp. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? Recommendations great fully received.

  • What is the output from the source?
If it is digital then you will need a DAC

    Is it consumer or studio?
If it is line level (ie consumer analog) then 2 RCA cables will do (unless your amp has weird connectors)
    If it is balanced

  • If the source is just an MP3 player or computer, you can just use a phono to RCA adapter. eBay have them for less than £3

  • I need to connect the optical digital audio output from a blueray player into my analogue amp.

  • Does your bluray not have analog outs?

If not you will need a DAC and to make sure that the bluray downsamples the digital out to 2.0 (otherwise you will get noise)

  • What is the problem?

Looking to get the power circuity upgraded, arm rewire, new motor?

  • Could take the audio from the scart lead.

  • I mean, all of those things would be nice but...On some Lps the tone arm doesn't move all the way to end of the record. So if the Lp is on the longer end of the scale, it effectively souds like a locked groove.

  • @object I think I have a DAC you use. I had it on long term lend from a mate so need to check with them.

  • I've never seen a bluray player with a SCART port, though HDMI was required, along with a HDCP-compliant display device?

(on the other hand, I probably haven't seen a wide variety of bluray players)

  • Which blu ray player is it? Is there only an optical connection?

  • I would be surprised if so, as I thought that the spec required an electrical digital output (which could be split out from the hdmi cable) as toslink didn't have enough bandwidth

  • Ah I have an LG HR600 (which is a hd freeview, twin tuner, dvd/blue ray 3d blu ray player and net player, given to me as LG replaced it as the solder joints on the aerial were dry). That has a scart output as well as HDMI and audio, thought others might be the same.

I also haven't seen a wide range of devices.

  • That does sound like a set up issue.

Have been playing with a Dual 505 that needed meticulous set up of the mechanism underneath to work properly.

  • It's a Samsung BD-F6500 and claims to be only an optical output.

  • Fuck me... That's got nothing on the back of it.

The DAC route is the only way....

  • Bullshit. New amp or DAC then.
    Thanks all.

  • Almost certainly cheaper to buy a slightly better blu ray player...

  • Given that the DAC I linked to up there ^^^^^^^^^ is seven pounds, I'm not sure that is true?

  • Good point well made. Didn't realise they were that cheap... always thought DACs were around £50 and up.

  • China, innit.

  • Stick with good quality converters. It's very important. Sorry I can't recommend any in particular.

  • Rega?
    Project debut?
    250 quid to play with....
