  • so handsome @Markyboy!

  • We got one month "free" insurance with petplan via the vet for Newton and Ada, which is now coming to an end. As most insurance websites, it's terrible because everything is so hidden and uninformative.

Does anyone have any experience with pet insurance and any recommendations?

  • We use petplan for our beagle Molly and from my comparisons they seemed to offer the best balance of cover and price, but you can certainly get cheaper cover.

  • I use Animal Friends for our cats but I found out this week that they dont cover dental work, which is a shitter because one of them needs a tooth removing.

  • I've changed insurance company every year for our dog. Making the most of introductory offers etc.

We're currently with More Than who offered us their most comprehensive insurance for the price of their basic insurance.

  • The one thing to look out for on policies, especially as the animal gets older, is that you are covered for treatment for more than a year/duration of the policy.

  • Does anyone have any experience with pet insurance and any recommendations?

I don't have any experience with buying pet insurance but I did at one point do all the HTML emails for Petplan and I know from this that they do regular money off promotions for new and existing customers (basically like the 10% off they're doing on their homepage right now).

I believe they'll also cover dental work but you need to get your vet to include a dental examination at each check-up to qualify.

  • My dad's dog is getting big

  • Thanks for all your replies everyone. I think I might just let momentum take me and sign up with petplan this year (I'm sure that's what they count on). I just don't have the time to be comparing loads of policies and from what you all are saying, they aren't completely crap. Hopefully can get some sort of multi-cat discount as well.

  • Oh, yeah, I remember building many emails for multi-cat and multi-dog and multi-hamster discounts from petplan too, so they definitely do those.

  • Insure Howard too

  • do petplan cover dental work? My policy is due for renewal next month so I may switch. I've only considered using the Animal Friends insurance once and they havent been able to help.

  • From what Bothwell said above it looks like they will cover dental, but only if your pet has had a dental checkup within the last 12 months (so I guess this means you need to have an annual checkup with teeth check included from the vet).

  • that works for me.

The vet was pretty happy with the Cats teeths last time we were in (aside from the broken one that needs removing)

    Cheers,

  • New arrival

  • From what Bothwell said above

Do actually confirm that with Petplan, though - my information might be out of date (or just wrong)

  • Yeah I'll have a proper look at some point.

  • I'm going to ask them when I call up to renew the cats' insurance, so I will report back.

  • Did anyone go to the Battersea event and if so did they see the show of your staffie thing?.

I did. Lots of different shows, a parade of all the rescue dogs, loads of lovely staffies and Jacqueline Wilson giving out prizes (who doesn't even own a dog as she's a cat person).

  • Mine do this, though less and less as they age - starts with grooming, then gentle biting, then rough 'n' tumbling on the floor, then chasing up and down the stairs, and finally, Maia squeals in protest, which ends the game.

They're still best friends and have never drawn blood. :)

  • Caleb back at the vets to have the last of his stitches taken out:
Milly meanwhile decides to use him as a chin-rest

  • Slowly making progress I think, James kipped on the bed from this morning until lunchtime.

  • 2 of my 4 cats :)
