I think that's Z Nation, I've downloaded the pilot but not watched it yet, although it sounds remarkably like what you just described. If there is moar zombies and less whining then I'm sold.

Still with it and enjoying, flashbacks are Ok and the new 'beings' at the end of E06 will give it a bit more life.
