Well done Clive! You've set a new benchmark for a lot of us so that we've got something to aspire to.
You're writing has been thoroughly enjoyable to read as well.

Thanks.
Tired. Ravenous. A little stiff and sore but mostly tired.
Got to bed at 1:30 as our dinner didn't start until 11. Woke at 5:30.
I think the SCOR lounge is open.

It sounds "Il riposo del guerriero".
The best preparation for good work tomorrow is to do good work today.

Only just managed to read all that. Well done, Clive, it was a pleasure to read that, fogged-up glasses notwithstanding, you managed it with such ease. As they say, cycling is very simple, you get out what you put in, and your summation at the end was spot on. There are so many reports of charity rides by people who are unprepared and then make some story out of their 'heroic' achievements, because bike riding is so hard, and it's great to see how your training made you so strong that there were no issues with your fitness that might have added to difficulties like missed turns in mountainous territory or heavy rain. Shame about the car crashes! Hope the others enjoyed it, too, despite their assorted misfortunes.

Sixteen miles of blissful cycling; a reward for the hills, broken tarmac, traffic and weather of the past week.
Very nice

Did you cheer up the poor man with the misfortunate saddle sore through a retelling of your cleats story?

They were with us. Probably the three strongest riders. Good chaps.
