  • you after a dynamo hub? if you want to go cheaper than a SON, 3N80 for sale x

  • alternatively you could make one yourself . It will be much, much cheaper (under £10 ish) and will do exactly the same as others, this guy put it in a handlebar. http://howdy.wordpress.com/2010/09/27/diy-hub-dynamo-usb-charger-inside-handlebar/

    no disc ... but thanks

also the son is lightweight, looks nicer and is german built ;)

nice idea, but I'd rather have a proper system than frying my electronic gadgets with some amateurly (by me) built device.

  • For Dynamo lighting - I've got the B&M and it's OK, but I'm not hugely impressed by the lighting output if I'm honest.
    There's also this: http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/axa-luxx-70-plus-steady-auto-front-light/aid:642351
Which is similar, but cheaper and with the same functionality.

Nice frame though. I built myself a frame on the Dave Yates course a few years back and I'm now kicking myself that I didn't fit discs to it...

  • wheelset arrived today, so I had to take a shot with them:
    (ignore stem and bars)

Fork got mounts for disc and dynamo cables since the last time.

Already have BB7 SL, Force Shifters, Sram X0 derailleur and cassette ready.
Brooks B17 Titanium, tyres and stem are in the mail.

Now only looking for a some cheap 3T Ergosums (don't really want to use the carbon version I have) and a crankset.
I actually was looking at the White Industries VBC, but they are so expensive and I'd also need a good square tapered BB with that.
Probably getting a cheap Sram Rival crankset, as I think 50-34 will still be feasible for 99% of the hills.

Thinking about getting some Tune Skyline ZFS skewers.
Super light and also theft-proof. If they are available for mtb's a bit touring shouldn't hurt them.

Going to build the bike up before doing the paintjob though. Maybe I'll add bosses for a Nitto M1 rack or something similar - or just go with a bar bag instead.

  • Been following this build but only just noticed your ETT is 63cm and your ST is 61cm c-t.

    That's a bit...gorilla-y!

  • designed for most load on the front wheel --> short 80mm stem for better handling --> longer top tube

  • stem id in that pic?

  • Tune Geiles Teil 4.0

  • ^^^ smart!

  • been a while ...

paint is done and will complete the build in the next weeks.
will do some better pics in the sun to give a better impression of the blue fade.

  • Really love this! Great paint job and really good job on the frame and forks. Looking forward to seeing this finished.

  • Looks outstanding, how fat can you run with guards?

  • Word of warning, disc brakes will be tricky to feel decent with old SRAM shifters (haven't tried the modern shape one yet), best combination I've found was the TRP HY/RD with full compressionless.

Would recommend going for RIval 22 hydraulic shift/brakeset, in theory you should be able to run your old 10 speed groupset on it as the cable pull is exactly the same.

  • Looking good seen this frame over at Velociao going to be a nice build.

  • Amazing paint! Where did you get that done? Are you thinking of any decals?

@edscoble I'm running old SRAM levers with mechanical discs, Apex and Shimano BR-465, with the Yokozuna cables you recommended, and I rate it as a setup.

This project is great, I'm disappointed I didn't see it before.

  • @edscoble
thanks for the advice. will try out this setup first and see how it works.
hydraulic disc brakes would be nice in terms of braking performance, but the Rival22 hydraulic set will cost 600€ at least :(

    @tommmmmmm
paint was done at velocaio.com ... I like it without decals and will keep it like this.

  • @Schnitter please tell me Velociao has only opened in the last couple of years. I used to live just around the corner and never heard of it.

  • Definitely, I can tell you this that it's not really worth going for Spyres unless you want a little less maintenance, performance wise they felt the same, the next one up is the HY/RD, auto aligned pads are sweet.

  • small update:
only need a few small screws and parts to finish the build

    important style question:
should I go with a silver/ti seatclamp and get a ti stem or leave it like this?
or maybe change to this: https://static.bike-components.de/cache/tune-Schraubwuerger-Sattelklemme-blau-34-9-mm-76d6055278b80a1abdb8656d842362f8.jpeg

  • Really nice! I'd go Blue or silver saddle clamp and Ti stem.

  • easy:
seat clamp should match the head set and bb cups.
stem should match bars and seat post.

  • Rad paint job. What tubes is the frame built with? Are the silver sections raw stainless, clear lacquered, or is it actually a colour?

  • It's looking sexy now!
