What forks should I go for on my new commuter

Posted on
  • I've bought a big Nag from NJS Export and it's replacing my mini Colnago as my commuter. As I ride to work half asleep and in heavy traffic down Clerkenwell Road, brakeless is a bit risky (as I've found out this week, going in on my Reminton). I'm going to replace the forks and keep the same setup as the Colnago, with front brake.

Just wondering whether I should get a carbon fork, a black steel Surly steamroller or get Bob Jacksons to make one up as close to the length and rake as the original and they'll even match the metallic red colour.

Bob Jacksons will cost £125, Carbons about the same and Surlys are £67

What should I do? Carbons are tempting.

    Not to worry.

Got an email lastnight and Nagasawa will make me some forks for an eye watering £300.

Anyone want to buy a Kidney?

  • You could drill your current forks?

  • Either get Nagasawa to make you some forks, or buy Wound-Ups...

    Nag fork would be incredible.

  • Anything else is going to look terrible.
Get a clamp-on, drill the crown or learn to ride.

    4th option, buy a Sirrus.

  • learn to ride.

    What's that supposed to mean?

    4th option, buy a Sirrus.

Why? That bike sucks camel dicks

  • He's telling you that if you're not ready to install brklss™ you shouldn't be riding a Nag.

  • you could get Mizuno carbon forks like Fahrgestell did for his samson.

  • Well he's a bit silly then as I do ride brakeless on my Reminton and De Rosa. I mentioned it in my first post, that's maybe why I was being a bit obtuse. I just prefer a brake riding through London rush hour.

Still don't understand why riding with a brake makes you a "learner" surely just means you prefer to have options.

Maybe it's a tape measure and penis thing.

Anywho. I'm paying up for a Nagasawa fork built by the man himself.

  • Thanks for all the advice though. If Nagasawa didn't get in touch I may have gone crabon
