Unemployed men queued outside a depression soup kitchen opened in Chicago by Al Capone. The storefront sign reads "Free Soup, Coffee and Doughnuts for the Unemployed.
The philosopher Simone Weil wrote that feeding the hungry when you have resources to do so is the most obvious of all human obligations.
