I bought this one earlier in the year. It has changed our lives. Only once has his friend managed to tailgate him in. It keeps him out and stands the force of him pounding on the cat flap from time to time (he used to regularly force his way through the magnetic cat flap). Easy to fit and work.

I've got one of the PetPorte Smartflap microchip ones: http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B003XLJ5DQ
Pain is the ass to set up and doesn't allow you set it differently for each cat you may have, and if your cat likes to sit by the flap (as our grumpy cat does) you'll hear a constant BEEP - click - BEEP - click - BEEP etc. which has driven me a bit nuts at times, but it has effectively prevented other cats coming in and they all got the hang of it quickly.

Mouse season is here. Sam brings them in, I catch them before he kills them, and then release mousie back outside away from cat paws.

I'm terrified if spiders so I've just had to watch from outside the door as my two cats toyed with a huge fucking spider. They were batting it at each other like it was a game of tennis :(

No, they just chew it a bit and then fling it across the floor. It's horrible.
In other news, Gomez needs a tooth removing and I've just found out that dental work is not covered by our pet insurance so I need to find £200+ from somewhere. Bloody expensive cat.

Just use a bit of string, dental floss or whatever you can get your hands on, tie the tooth in one end and a door handle on the other end, then bang the door... Bobs your uncle and Gomez's tooth gone. That's what I used to do with my baby teeth...

^Ha
Is that tying a bit of string to the cat's tooth with or without gloves on?

Gloves are entirely optional... I would probably wear full body armour for self protection in case of endless attacks from said cat.

That's a huge bummer. Who are you insured with?

Is it worthwhile seeing if any vet colleges could do it?

That's actually not a bad idea.
I think we're just gonna have to stick it on the credit card, the tooth is infected and I don't want it to spread to other parts of his mouth, so sooner the better really. Poor guy.

Time to go to the dental food for the kitty.
-

His teeth are actually really healthy according to the vet. The tooth that needs removing is broken, we think probably during 'play fighting' with the other cat.
He was previously on antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication but it hasn't solved the problem so the tooth has to go.

Since meowingtons the cat is no longer here, the neighbours cat whom I have meowed at in the past and hissed at meowingtons through the window is now getting in through open window and keeps getting transported to his house two doors down in a blanket thrown over it.

Ah poor gomez, I hate dentists at the best of times.
Any recommendations for chip based and or app controllable cat flap?
