I've built and maintain bikes for a number of SDCC and met a few others socially: good crowd, even if they've got too much of a hard-on for Strava for my liking.
There is a bit of history: last year I pointed out the incongruity of making helmets compulsory for their sportive, when they were one of the sponsoring clubs of the local TT league, where helmets weren't compulsory (I was one of a handful of riders, who raced without one).
Guess which club pushed through compulsory helmets for the league this season (on the back of precisely zero accidents)...
I'd have more sympathy for their position if it didn't start and finish at "wear a helmet". I recently crossed paths with one of their club rides: dangerously stupid riding.
No point wearing a helmet, if you're not going to use what's inside it...
Next time I see Alan I'll tell him LFGSS think Westie is a tit.
