So the kid started crawling the other day, and took aim at one of our speakers placed on the floor, and promptly stuck her finger in the tweeter that is now indented.
I can't hear any difference, but my setup is far from ideal as my nice amp died the other week. Does it matter? It seems like it should, but so far I can't hear any difference

As far as I know the dome of the tweeter shapes and smoothes out the frequency response and timing. If they were set up in studio like conditions and you sat dead centre you might be able to perceive a difference. otherwise, probably not.
Having said that, it would annoy me greatly. Sounds like it's time for speaker stands and grilles. If you do get stands make sure they're super heavy and stable. Apart from improved sound quality you don't want those falling on your kid!
Or sell the kid.

Vacuum nozzle... Suck it straight out again

^ the dented tweeter! not the kid etc etc
-
• #1306
Careful with that! Is it a metal dome, fabric or paper? You can far too easily tear them.
-
• #1307
You are referring to the tweeter dome (cover), not the diaphragm. It's probably cosmetic and can possibly be reshaped by pulling it using Sellotape.

Tried pulling with tape last night but i think it's made of some kind of flimsy fabric so i'll prob just let it be. Grills might be the way forward, but not sure they make them for Tannoy Reveals? For now we've moved them up from the floor, so at least they're somewhat safe
Listening to some piano stuff now which sounds good so don't think any damage is done. But it really bugs me.
Might vacuum the kid a bit just in case.

Picked up a Topping TP60 as a replacement for a Trends Audio TA10.1 (moar power), very impressed with it so far. Swapped from using a headphone amp to a FiiO D03K as well. Both performing well for not much money.

Apologies if slightly OT but I have a set of hifiman re0 earphones that Im pretty fond of but they are starting to die on me. I'd love to give them some new life and a bit of an upgrade by re-cabling them but Im not really very handy with wiring and the like. Does anybody know anyone/anywhere that would be able to do that for me?

Just bought a Project Debut Carbon, and a Cambridge Audio Azzur 551p pre amp, after breaking the tone arm on my aging Marantz turntable whilst moving house.
Will be using my old NAD amp (still solid as a rock), and eltax floorstanders (very big, and showing their age)..... Although I am considering sizing down and getting some Q Acoustics 2020i's to free up a bit of floor space.Should I be as excited as I am about it? I really hope it lives up to the reviews.
Does anybody have a pair of the 2020i's they can inform me about?

I gifted my CDjs and speakers to a cousin as I didn't have room for them but now I've got a spare room/office and I'm in the market for something to play my music through.
I've never been great at this sort of thing - so what should I be going for. All my music is now backed up to hard drives and I have a modest collection of vinyl but no turntable. -

budget?

Anyone know anyone that repairs turntables? Mine works playing music, but makes an awful noise from the motor.

£500-1k
Ideally it would be a gradual affair - so what I need to get going and then upgrades from there.

@Tenderloin
B&W 685 S2 bookshelf speakers, a marantz PM 6005 or similar amp (cambridge Audio?) and a NAD Wi-Fi DAC (or any network player) to accept the digital streaming signals from the computer. Should all be doable under £1k and don't spend more than £5 per metre for cabling. Change components for personal preference.I would always recommend separates. Speakers, amp and a source because you can change things as your needs change and they'll always sound better.
Or if it's just background music to fill a smallish room a cambridge audio Air 200 - wireless and bluetooth all in one thingy.

Speakers are one thing I would ALWAYS buy second hand (speaker technology has not improved much in the last 50 years - in fact some of the best sounding speakers I have heard have been 30 or 40 years old)

Thanks for that - I'll have a mull over and read up this weekend and then come back here with some more questions.
I like the look of the Air 200 for my bedroom though...

I can report back that the new turn table and pre amp are awesome.
My new neighbour was knocking on the door after 10 minutes saying, "as much as I like Anton Ellis, could you plese turn it down a bit, the bass is making my picture frames vibrate."I'll be keeping the old floorstanders then!

Dry bearings? According to the manual, my 30 year old Revolver needs a spot of oil on the motor and turntable bush every year or so - it might be worth spending a couple of pounds on an oiling pen before paying someone by the hour to investigate and ultimately condemn all moving parts.

Where should I take my Original Rega Plannar (wood finish on sides) for servicing.
-
• #1323
that is easily enough for sommat good. if i were you, i'd take that amount to joe at mojo audio and let him kit me out with some sweet vintage/older gear and spend the rest on rekkids.
i sent sarah's bro down to him a couple of weeks ago to get his classic old rotel serviced. he came back with two amazing sets of speakers for about 150 more than the service. sounds absolutely awesome.

Someone buy my Technics 1200s. I need to liberate the cash to pay for a powertap and then put some money to a nice home listening deck. Like a project debut.
Or advise me on somewhere trustworthy that would liberate my cash. Ta.Gumtree is bringing up "yeah mate i'll take 'em for less than you're asking"

Gumtree's full of freaks. I tried to buy some high end audio kit on there the other day and eneded up in an hour-long heated text argument with an angry nutter who insisted on driving across london to deliver the item immediately. It was about 7pm on friday when he first replied and I was on my way out of the door. By 8pm he decided he would have to wait till after the traffic died down which meant me sitting in till 10pm and canceling plans. When I replied that didn't really work for me (and offering Sunday and Monday as alternatives) he blew up and called me time waster. Then apologised, citing that he was stressed because he was trying to make the same before going travelling on Monday. Then he backtracked and blew up again. Even though I managed somehow to stay neutral and friendly thoughout this tirade of oddness he eventually signed off with "Good luck with your sh*tty band". I finally cracked and replied, "Good luck finding yourself travelling, here's a tip: you're a c*nt.". I did post the entire bizarre exchange on twitter, then thought better of it and removed it. So yeah... gumtree eh? What's this thread about again?
Airport express sounds like the one to me.
Like the Apple whore I am.
I liked Macs before they were cool tho. #System7.1.24lyfe
