B&W 685 S2 bookshelf speakers, a marantz PM 6005 or similar amp (cambridge Audio?) and a NAD Wi-Fi DAC (or any network player) to accept the digital streaming signals from the computer. Should all be doable under £1k and don't spend more than £5 per metre for cabling. Change components for personal preference.

I would always recommend separates. Speakers, amp and a source because you can change things as your needs change and they'll always sound better.

Or if it's just background music to fill a smallish room a cambridge audio Air 200 - wireless and bluetooth all in one thingy.

  • Thanks for that - I'll have a mull over and read up this weekend and then come back here with some more questions.

I like the look of the Air 200 for my bedroom though...

  • Bit of a dredge as I put this on hold investing the money in startups rather than music players. Anyway my missus gave me the Cambridge Audio 200 for Xmas - and it pretty much ticks the boxes of what I wanted. I'm really impressed with the sound and ease of setup. I'd recommend it to the simpler folk who want an out the box solution
