Its PayPal's cross platform compatibility and already gained user-base that will make it last. Apple Pay (think Apple Maps LOL) is hardly a threat IMO; google wallet on the other hand is given android's market share especially in BRIC countries.
Apple is bending over and giving in to market demand where as in the old steve jobs days they defined the market. Jonny ive must be crying alone in the Apple inc toilets who once said anything bigger than 4" is just not right for human hands (which is true).

Amey, don't mean to be rude but you sound like one of those embarrassing "Steve was a god" Mac forums types.
Steve Jobs was a great leader and visionary sure, but banging on about "Steve this, Steve that" is cringeworthy and he made plenty of BAD decisions, some of which he was talked out of and then the success of said product was attributed to him.Quick Example: iMac. An amazing product that redefined naming conventions for consumer electronics (as well as all the other things it did). SJ wanted to call it the MacMan.
Bigger phones are defo the way forward, the smaller of the new sizes looks ideal.

Apple is going for the Chinese market hard with the larger iPhone and has the financial clout to make their payment system top dog. Apple are under pressure for investors to not only create markets but dominate other ones, I'm not sure they are bending over...

No no at all; I am not a jobs fan boy, critic if anything; I am just saying in Jobs days it wasnt investors or markets that decided; it was Jobs and of course he made mistakes. But he was original.
I am generally in favour of singular vision vs crowd sourcing ..

It works for North Korea.

Sometimes Steve Jobs could be an idiot. He saddled mac users with the single button mouse. Woz was a two-button guy.
No decision in Jobs's life was more wrong, however than thinking he could cure liver cancer with homeopathy and a vegan diet. -

; )
thats dictatorship vs democracy; I am talking about a consumer product
Apple is now clearly showing the signs of threatened contender with bigger iPhone and the watch which is clearly pushed out quicker than it should be for consumers to be prototype testers as android watches are closing in to their 2nd generation.
And my whole point is I remember Apple to be the original company which made others feel that they are falling behind .. what happened?
(cue in some android fanboy posting video of how Apple stole UI from xerox and they were never original)

"I am generally in favour of singular vision vs crowd sourcing .."
Fully agree with this.
Also get the feeling SJ was a bit of an arsehole. Did he do much for charity of the environment? Not sure but he did order that hideous yacht. He made some great consumer products, big fucking deal really, TC seems far more responsible ethically.
And yeah, what BQ said... bang on... -

I'm not sure 'original' is a word which can be leveraged at Apple all that often.
They didn't invent the mouse, the all in one, the smart phone, the mp3 player, online music stores or the tablet but they've arguably "revolutionised" or improved upon each of those once other companies have laid the ground work.
The only originality, imo, they're renowned for is their insistence on a walled garden. Something which other tech companies are now seeking to emulate.
I think that the Apple Watch will sell in the hundreds of millions despite its fairly fugly appearance. But that's also a good thing for the sector as a whole as other companies will have to innovate with more exciting technology to try to undercut the marketing machine of Apple.

Am I the only person who thinks the new iphones are pretty ugly too? those top and bottom 'seams' between the metal on the back. bleh.

• #6489
You're too young to remember apple in the 90s then. (the non-Steve years)
Every beige PowerMac they produced was a visciously expensive, underperforming steaming turd of a machine, and every OS between 7.5 and OSX was bloated, ugly as sin, devoid of proper multitasking, and just fucking awful. And then there were the licenced clones. Dumb idea.
Even the first iMacs and G3s were shit, because they were still running OS9. OSX couldn't come soon enough. -

So much this.
Now we need a fucking "one handed mode", LOLIf they would do a smaller one, with an aspect ratio closer to 4:3 than 16:9,
that doesn't feel like a long, slim bar - but designed for human hands, and that actually fits in trouser pockets I'd buy it immediately. -

Is that what your gf tells you? OH CHILDISH LOLS.
But seriously, I can reach past my phones display both ways one handed, I imagine the 4.7 is half an inch wider at most? Wont make any real world difference. -

I didnt say that Ive/Jobs did :P
FWIW I cant use anything on top left of screen on my Nexus 5 when used right handed. But its £299

There is a lot of hyperbol in Apple Keynotes... but that's not news to anyone.
JI, such Designer, so talk, much waffle.
What was it about you cant tell where the software finishes and the product starts or something? There mate, where the screen meets the metal, thats the bloody point... -

Yea those seams are awful.
Front does look pretty nice though, doesn't it. -

Didn't really have a problem with pre OSX operating systems, they did everything I asked of them... Design, making music, etc... The PC alternative was horrific...

Just watched a video about the Z3 compact.. looking good!
Not sure I can deal with android though, or any other mobile OS than iOS for that matter.. -

Android > iOS
Ok, now I see a bigger picture.
Good post, thank you.
