  • This evening I shall (probably) watch Patton for the first time ever. Yeah.

  • Patton: Lust for Glory? Ace film

  • Event Horizon. I remember watching this a decade ago and loved it. Watching it again last night, I have realised that it's shite, but I still love it. Laurence Fishburne is a dude.
Under The Skin. Couldn't do more than 15 mins.
Dallas Buyers Club. The best film I have seen this year, after Event Horizon.

Currently Going to 'buy' and watch Bad Neighbours later.

  • Halfway through Slumdog Millionaire at the moment. Can't believe I have never gotten around to watching this in the last 6 years...

  • Bad Neighbours has about two decent jokes in it. Like anchorman 2, it appears to be a series of poorly edited together scenes to form the semblance of a story. lazy.

Blue Ruin, tho, is top notch and everyone should watch it as a matter of urgency. Crowd funded film innit. It's the future.

  • Thanks, I'll give it a miss then. I was only drawn to it after the DVD cover mentioned something about being made by the same people behind 'This is the End'

  • if it's a choice between that and the emmerdale omnibus by all means, go wild.

  • Watched EtV twice...I can see how people say it's form over function but I love it.

Think it would work great with "Dutch relaxation herbs" alas this is Northern Ireland where I am, and not The Nether Regions where coffee shops are abound ;)

  • Bad Neighbours is awful, Blue Ruin is wonderful...

I'm still reeling after watching Enter The Void last night, total game changer... If you haven't seen it, watch it IMMEDIATELY!

BTW It's a long film, I recommend you 'buy' a very large file, bit pixely even at 2.6Gb...

  • Two Days, One Night. A little slow, but engrossing - mostly because of Marion Cotillard. She was excellent and produced a very realistic, subtle and almost unnoticeable performance that the majority of actors would struggle with.

I thought the rest of the cast were a bit average in comparison and there were a few embarrassing "ooh, I must be dramatic now, think of when my goldfish died..." moments.

Left the cinema feeling pretty flat though.

I also watched (after a big friday night) Escape Plan. Ridiculous and completely enjoyable. Then I watched Riddick, totally ridiculous end enjoyable. I think a hangover definitely changes your perception of films.

  • not strictly speaking film-y, but i'm watching the 'Masters of Horror' telly series they made a good few years ago. Bit hit & miss - the Lovecraft adaptation by old-hand Stuart Gordon and the mind-fucking Dario Argento entries have stood out the most thus far. Apparently the final episode in the first season was never aired on account of it being far too violent and gory for network television. no surprise that Takashi Miike is responsible.

  • No one seen Hercules yet? Any good?

  • I didn't realise Patton had an alternative title, but that's the one. I don't generally watch war films but it's one of those I read about and feel I need to. Funnily enough was gonna do Blue Ruin last night but wasn't in the mood.

I thought Bad Neighbours was fine, Rogen/Bryne and Efron/Franco bounce off each other quite well. Speaking of Efron you should watch Liberal Arts, he's got a small bit part as this stoner guy but he's hilarious.

I thought the performances were fine but the story was so bloody trite... Middle class rad dad/yummy mummy feel-good movie...

  • Sounds good, on my Lovefilm list now :)

edit: The first thing in the search box suggestion was masters of sex. Sigh.

On that note, non-porn (as in no clash of the genitals) erotic movies are hen's teeth. Like good movies about eating then.

  • I watched Stripes for the first time last night, great fun.

  • Tx ^_^

Sex and Lucia is good btw.

Tried room in Rome...it put me to sleep half way in, but couldn't say it was perse a bad movie. May work for some here.

  • Who is on Twitter?

My girlfriend (soon to be wife) is a lecturer in film at Exeter Uni and has been given responsibility of the Twitter account: https://twitter.com/ExeterFilm

She's trying to get the numbers up as apparently it helps her probation period stats and her reputation.

So if you're into film, and fancy some interesting tweets on an infrequent basis... she'd really appreciate a follow.

    ^ This...

  • Watched "the hundred foot journey" on the orange wednesday deal this week, it's the sort of thing my mum would normally like but me and the mrs went anyway.
Fairly charming, good acting by the majority of the cast and really makes me want to visit France and get a curry.

The new Woody Allen looks good too
