I was a bit wary of tales of the M bars failures. They've been through various redesigns over the years but the basic design is still sharp curves in aluminium, and my scaphoid knows only too well what handlebar failure can result in. I'd recommend you try one of each.
The S type has a longer stem, and you could also fit certain models of riser - Nitto do one with no sweep that would work.
