I found that the hubs from my parts box weren't quite in the best condition. There was some cone pitting and a bit of wear to the flanges. Probably solve-able, but I mulled it over for a week whilst on holiday and was then overcome with a feeling of not-wanting-to-mess-about.
So I just ordered most of the bits I need to finish this bike properly: a Shutter Precision front dynohub, rear shimano 105 hub, and mavic a319 rims. I'll have these built up and will add panaracer pasela 37mm tyres.
Light-wise, I am now thinking a Edelux 2 for the front and a secula plus for the back (possibly fender-mounted). This is driven by a combination of aesthetics and performance. But I have a bit of thinking time, since I want to order the tyres and front light together from SJS to save on postage, and the light is out of stock for a couple of weeks. (Rear light I may get from SJS too - haven't looked into it properly as I only just found out about it today)
Probably for the first time ever I am actually buying what I want rather than making do and convincing myself something else will work. It is a nice, indulgent feeling.
I just got the SP-8 laced to Sputnik rim with B+M lights/gubbins for £240 all in from Spa Cycles... best deal around by far and unlike the edelux can be used to charge your smartphone/gps via USB too. Ordered on Wednesday and delivered today-pretty chuffed!
How's that front light holding up for you? Edelux are still out of stock at sjs so my mind has wandered back to maybe getting the b&m. I've heard its not so reliable in the rain though.
Hmph, well, 'that escalated quickly'.
