Actually isn't it everyone's duty to avoid crashing into others? There's no excuse for plowing into someone's vehicle.
I'd bet most of you having a go at the cabbie would be on the other side of the fence if it was another cyclist he ran into, scratching their sparkly NJS..

He was perfectly within his rights to crash into you. You were in his lane. In the highway code it says if your in a bike lane you dont need braeks.
