Ha! A pity that Stowmarket & District Cycling Club aren't on Twitter.
I recently rode their sportive and afterwards I was chatting with a couple of club members.
The club Chairman joined us and when I spoke to him, he slowly looked me up & down with a look of absolute contempt on his face and blanked me: for not wearing a helmet.
Apparently he doesn't "do" irony: the members of his club to whom I was chatting, had spent the afternoon downing pints before riding the twenty-odd miles home.

This morning I decided to wear my helmet as it was a bit chilly. It worked wonders at keeping my head a bit warmer than it would have been.
I haven't read the thread but I hope my contribution proves helmets are necessary*

You sure it wasn't the President - smallish grey haired chap in his 50s? Alan pretends to be all sour-faced and grumpy but he's lovely and cuddly inside.

No, not Alan: "Westie".

Might be old but saw it today. Reminds me of when a taxi knocked me on my head.

Next time I see Alan I'll tell him LFGSS think Westie is a tit.

Not Lufgus, just me.
I've built and maintain bikes for a number of SDCC and met a few others socially: good crowd, even if they've got too much of a hard-on for Strava for my liking.
There is a bit of history: last year I pointed out the incongruity of making helmets compulsory for their sportive, when they were one of the sponsoring clubs of the local TT league, where helmets weren't compulsory (I was one of a handful of riders, who raced without one).
Guess which club pushed through compulsory helmets for the league this season (on the back of precisely zero accidents)...
I'd have more sympathy for their position if it didn't start and finish at "wear a helmet". I recently crossed paths with one of their club rides: dangerously stupid riding.
No point wearing a helmet, if you're not going to use what's inside it...

Mandatory helmet rules are a reason to dig out the vintage "hairnet" helmet.

Investigating officer, Pc Michelle Rawson, said: "Luckily the rider is an experienced cyclist and he was wearing a safety helmet which thankfully protected him from serious injury."
you won't believe what happened before...

“Cyclists are always likely to come off worst in these situations and anyone causing an injury or fatality will have to live with this on their conscience.”
That's the sort of deterrent which will make people think twice about behaving like cunts on the road. Thanks officer.

Falling off a stationary bike is about as rigorous as EN 1078 testing amounts to: a 12mph impact.
I doubt this is what the officer meant or understood.

No Regard For The Law says…
I am a cyclist myself, and I must say I am a pretty dangerous cyclist. But that's because I love the thrill and adrenaline rush of nearly being hit by a car. However, I still think that there are many irresponsible car drivers out there that need to re take their test. I also am a motorist too, so I get too see both sides of the coinHero.

This article started off promising
For the lawyer, the issue of causation of harm is all important.
Then went a bit crap when it failed to mention what (who) actually does cause the harm... people wearing a ton of metal

"Wounds to the skull suggest he was not wearing a helmet, and the absence of defensive wounds on his arms and hands indicate he was still armoured at the time of his death."

It boils my blood when the pro polystyrene cap brigade make out that somehow wearing a helmet means you will have less accidents. Why don't they wear them all the time everywhere then, cretins.
