dunno, maybe call them and ask to speak to a supervisor. To give Appe credit, though this doesn't help your case, but Apple is a rare company that openly say the law exist. If you happen to speak to a low level advisor or whatnot then they probably don't know this exist. But all eletronical items in the UK are covered, in your case, you just need find out who's responsible... My bet is O2...
