Finally started with a modern road project.
It's a 2014 btwin mach, originally had 105 5700 on it but moved to ultegra 6700 drivechain with fancy bolts etc.
Chainset (no idea what it is) will stay as rides well enough, 6800 ultegra might be the deal but not an issue right nowFrame and fork are really nicely made, supposedly by a supplier that makes looks lower end frames. Lots of nice details on it, di2 ready, and ridiculously beefy headtube junction. Back end has super thin wishbone like seatstays and beefy chainstays.
Weight wise frame in 55cm comes in at 1060g on my scales with seatclamp and cable stops fitted, fork is 320g tapered steerer.
Aim is to build a modern bike with a compact chainset, but fairly close ratios at the back, 24/25c tyres, reasonable weight (~8kg) and can be ridden through the winter without worring about it. And not spend a fortune, so, might not have the pedigree of more well known brands, but it'll do the job for me.

I don't know why you'd buy a new group set to ride through the winter with. Change that in March innit.

I've just got one of the new pompinos, put my old crankset on and the clearance for the 48t chainring is fine, but the crank is really close. I don't want to get a new BB as the chainline is alright. Spacers between spider and chainring or something?! Or has had a daily bike with clearance like that?

Spacers between the spider arms and the chainring isn't going to move your cranks more outwards. Solution: buy a BB with a longer spindle and fuck up the chainline.

Few things this weekend and in the last couple of weeks:
- Rear wheel - converted front XT, Sapim spokes, Velocity A23 aero
- New belt
- Shimano SLX hydraulic front brake
- Shimano 105 165mm crankset (to match new chainline)
- 22 tooth bolt-on rear pulley
And a nice lunchtime ride with bike dumped unceremoniously on the grass.

Use longer BB, and then spacers to bring the chainring back to where it was before.
Or, ride it, see if the crank hits the stay when you sprint, if it doesnt then leave it be.

if you're not brklss you can use a thin spacer to bring the cog out a little

No, but I've been to Catalunya a lot and have dreamed about riding at Horta, it looks amazing. MatarĂ³ is concrete isn't it? What's the surface like, and how steep is the banking?

MatarĂ³ is concrete. The surface is shite (although I've never been there). MatarĂ³ is even steeper than Horta as it's 200m.
Horta's surface it's getting patched where it's needed but it's supposed to be renewed from the top blue line to the blue strip.
