Though I did cheat... Safari has a bug in which it can only focus on a single thing... so when you press reply it just lets go of the selected text. There's nothing we can do about that, we can't tell what you had selected once Safari clears it.
So when I selected test, I copied... then I typed

Have you tried Chrome?
