Welwyn Travelator Ride

HELP: has anyone done this route in the day, and is it as nice? I feel like there were long stretches of what might be busy roads in daytime. Can anyone confirm before I drag a bunch of newbies out on it?

Don't think they'd be so happy about you using the travelator during the day.

I have, and I like it. Although I guess I may be a bit more traffic tolerant than the bunch of Mary Poppins style Dutch bikers you potentially have in your peloton?

The second half is definitely a lot nicer than the first though..

Beginner roadie douchebags, unfortunately. I believe you when you say it's nice, I'm sure they can do a bit of traffic for the delight of the second half. The alternative is some Kent hills including Brasted Hill so this sounds nicer, really. Cheers.

The stretch from Codicot to Hitchen is on quite a fast road but I don't think the traffic gets that heavy as the Motorway and other major road take most of the load. It could be a bit lively going through Hitchen with those roundabouts and clearways, perhaps there is a quieter back road route you can take for that bit. The rest I would say is good riding in the daytime.

Got to say I'm a little sore this morning.

Must have saved my energy by drafting you all the way around. How you kept that pace up leading from the front the whole way, I don't know. I created a Strava segment to see how it compares, but I guess it's busy matching people's rides to it.

Also sore and achey. This morning was bad, this evening was worse.

Ride back from Potters Bar was fun, and somehow slower than the WNKR despite being downhill for 7 miles.
