With heat alloy expands more than steel. You can sometimes pour boiling water over the taper in the arm and lever it off with a suitable tool, ie cone spanner, big screwdriver or your mum's big serving spoon.
Have you ever managed to do this successfully? You personally I mean, not a buddy or your cousin etc...
BTW steel is an alloy of iron, carbon 'n' shit.
