toro or strada for road riding?
both same price
Toro
- brighter
Strada
- battery lasts longer?
- doesnt look like it will blind drivers
- not as bright
My thoughts are that you will be able to aim the strada further up road without blinding drivers and that the extra brightness of the toro will just be wasted as you aim it directly infront of your wheel? I currently have to do this with my Joystick (actually this does it itself as the mount slowly points downwards)

The Toro still looks like a fairly narrow beam, there's a reason why MTB isn't on the list of scenarios it's good for.
With that in mind, so long as you aim it at the ground in front of the bike, the beam will still light the road for some way and yet won't be dazzling every driver out there.

Which mount are you using? Never had any problems with Joystick or Toro moving, using the 'quick release' mount thing.

I've got the Strada use it for commuting, dark country lanes and off road out in the sticks. Couldn't want a better light.

is it bright enough to feel comfortable going 25mph+ down hill? As in you can make out the road surface clearly enough to avoid pot holes or gravel
@andy_k I use the rubber strap mount, just always ends up pointing a little bit down

Ah! The bolt on QR mount solves that issue and comes with the Toro/Strata

I believe so and do bug I did that with my Cateye Volt 300 as well although this is much brighter. I suppose it depends on your carrot consumption as well.

Run green lights if you're not a paramedic/medical doctor
"green light from a warning beacon fitted to a vehicle used by a medical practitioner registered by the General Medical Council (whether with full, provisional or limited registration);"
Reckon this applies to bikes?
Yes officer, I did RLJ doing my sick trackstand, but check out my green light. Medical emergency bro

Looking for an omidirectional rear for clipping to bag, with USB charging.
I'm using a Blackburn Mars at the moment but it's a major hassle to detach from bag (secured with rubberbands) and crank open to get at the batteries regularly. All the nice small rear lights seem to run on dirty disposable lithiums.
Smart Lunar 2 (USB version) is looking like a winner. £13.50 at Start Cycles.

Supernova Pure E3 - anyone know if it has to be in a specific orientation for the beam to be "correct" or can it be run upside down i.e. underneath the handlebars if using the handlebar clip/mount?
I emailed Supernova about this and got their out of office -telling me to have a happy Christmas, and that they would be back in January 2014.

I have a Supernova E3 on my Mather and I had to take it apart to take care of excess cable for a rear light (snipped from the main board - I did not need).
I can tell you that the LED is a single one, and that the reflector cone was even. It had no special direction or top.
But, the cable-in was on the underside. Aside from a small rubber seal, there is no protection against water. I would be very cautious about mounting it upside down in any wet weather as I wouldn't want to bet the light on that rubber seal (especially if the cable was being pulled).

B&M are actually rubbish with lots of design flaws and some recalls.
I would recommend a philips saferide rear light. It creates a massive glowing ring. -

Final clearance of the Chain Reaction sale has some lights in it.
Not a bad time to buy, when no-one else is.

As an update - once I got the charging sorted (not from my laptop, fine from a USB plug) I've been quite pleased with the Lezyne Macro front light. Yes it still sings quietly, but I don't really notice it when out and about.
Not sure what to do with the Micro rear light though... I just can't work out where to put it. I have a carradice permanently attached behind my saddle, so seat post doesn't work. I have another light that's intended for seatpost wrapped round a buckle strap, but it's much more low-level LEDs pointing all over the place. It's too bouncy/wonky a way of holding the Micro since it's so bright and directional. Any suggestions? Attach something to the rear fork? It might get a bit Heath Robinson, but whatever works. Also, has anyone used Magicshine's repair service? The back light's stopped working. I suspect a dodgy connection somewhere.
That whistling thing, I've come across before - is it something to do with a capacitor?
