Jens to go for Hour Record...

Only if you compare your numbers with Wiggo et al.
-
• #7455
No, my numbers were average in comparison to anyone.

Why I do this? Why not! Everyone saw the memo from the UCI. It’s been four months and I honestly find it quite strange that nobody has given it a try so far. We have 18 WorldTour teams, plus more than a 1000 pro continental riders and an immense group of amateurs that also can have a go.
Or not... I lost track of it over on TTF but I assume that Botty's attempt is dead in the water after the bio-passport thing?

Trek developed a really good bike for me, based on the super fast SpeedConcept
Dibs please.

That's umpossible.

What was Fabian's reason for flouncing on the Hour?
-
• #7460
Wait until you have enough data to do a proper power profile. That was a sad day. So many tears.

• #7461
He threw a hissy fit when the UCI announced that pursuit bikes would be legal again.
-
• #7462
Yep
-
• #7463
Shame. I know you were saying on here that people would be surprised how competitive Matt's power numbers would be, but presumably even someone like Jens (i.e. not a specialist Tester) would put the marker beyond what the top amateurs could achieve?
-
• #7464
I reckon Matt's a fair bit more aero than Jens though.
-
• #7465
Yes, he is. I haven't got JV CdA numbers to hand but might be able to dig some up and make a prediction. I think they're using him to see how fast the track will run before Cancellara goes for it, and whether Cancellara will need to do it at altitude or not for a mega distance (I think he will/should)
-
• #7466
I think you're right. The main goal of this attempt is to gather data for Cancellara.
-
• #7467
The Swiss track was the brainchild of Andy Rihs and built by Velotrack so should be as fast as somewhere like Manchester. If it's not fast enough then they'll go to altitude for Cancellara and do his at Aguascalientes.
I don't have data on him but best case scenario he would average 420w with a CdA of 0.22 (both pretty optimistic, I reckon he'll be 400w and 0.225 if not worse) and maybe crack 52km. MB would go quicker.

The Velodrome Suisse in Grenchen is excellent. The only slightly disturbing thing is that they run the induction courses during the open public sessions, but I doubt that'll be a problem for Voigt or Wetlip Spartacus.
I'm assuming they'll cover up all the BMC signage it has plastered all over it.

Now, if one of the Specialized stores could please get back to me about the adapters I need to actually mount these, that would be great..

25:25 tonight, 18s ahead of both @axpayne and @umop3pisdn. Short cranks ftw!

I secured 3rd in my local grimpeur comp this evening (held over 2 hill climbs and a hilly 19m course).

First 12 on Sunday. Hellish week at work, so only just starting to think about it now. Going to go out to buy food/nutrition tomorrow, any tips? Any other general advice from those in the know?

Don't be tempted by anything you haven't already tried in training, digestive issues have been the downfall of many a long distance tester.

It's probably too late for this advice, but I think the most useful single thing you can do now is to rest.
The Kent course is attractive one to ride on, and mostly flat - strong wind can be a problem, but praying to the weather Gods is all I am able to suggest.
Just look at it this way: riding a bike is what you like doing, and this Sunday you can do it all day. Also, you only have to finish to be guaranteed a p.b.
Anyway: Good Luck!

Thanks for the tips both. Been resting all week (well in terms of biking as work has been pretty gruesome) apart from a short very easy ride last night testing the bike I'd chosen to ride for the event. Snapped a bloody spoke though so may well revert to the touring bike as I don't have another compatible wheel for bike choice #1.
Will definitely try to enjoy it and am trying to view it as an opportunity to ride my bike all day rather than put myself under excess pressure to "race". He longest TT I've done is a 50 but I've done some longer rides this year including a 150 miler and 300k audax so feel reasonably confident I'll be able to hang on for 12 hours if I don't try to be silly and go too hard.
I've never ridden for this long/far without cafe stops for "proper" food so hard to know what to do for nutrition as I have no real experience of what I'm facing on Sunday. But reckon if I put lots of options in a cool box in my friend's car (I don't have any dedicated support but a mate doing it has said I can sling a bag in his support car) then I should be ok. Lots of water, lots of premixed energy/recovery drinks and lots of different food options (bananas, energy bars, cereal bars, sandwiches, cakes etc) and I think I should be ok. Hopefully.
Any others thoughts or suggestioned welcomed. :0)
You should gear for the fast sections, also it's also supported my "I'm more aero than I am powerful" hunch that I had (assuming my calibration isn't fucked).
