  • Essentially bike must have two "brakes"(unlesss it's a penny farthing). Pedal resistance counts as one brake, so fixed and front brake is fine. Bikes with only a coaster brake are also illegal.

  • Not strictly illegal but not in whole compliance with the law, it's a bit like a cars in the sense they can have what would be MOT failures on them but until it goes in for a MOT it's still fine. Not technically illegal but if you were to hit a ped with brakeless installed you'd be in deep shit.

    edit - that said 99.9% of police don't know anything about it and just issue a fine should they feel the need, a bit like them voiding a cars MOT should they deem it unfit for road use.
