Unfortunately since writing that post yesterday I have been googling and now know about the De Havilland Dino (MG-TF-based) replica (dimensionally convincing, but unfortunately only using the K series.) It's a good job I don't have 20 grand spare (and if I did it would be spent on an Aston Martin)
You can get a nice stratos replica, proper space framed, with the alfa v6 in it. The modern 3 litre makes more power and torque than the original engines never mind the cloverleaf multivalve v6. As those cars needed more power...
