Got taken out by a kid on a scooter today. He and his mum had run across the other side of the road in front of a car, they then stopped at a pedestrian island. Just as I was going through the road narrowing he decided to whizz out in front of me. I braked and hit the scooter, and flew over the top of the kid. Wheel fucked, tyre burst open, bruised elbow and hip, pulled/torn adductor.
I can ride ok, but can barely stand up or walk as all the damaged muscles are stretched out when standing and used to lift my leg up.

Ouch! Not fun. Heal up.

To the chap on the black single speed who was left hooked by the white BMW 1 series (EK63 OOY) yesterday evening at the junction of Stratford High Street and Warton Road, if it's any consolation, you concluded an argument I was making at the time that the blue cycle lanes are absolutely lethal at junctions, especially when some bint can't wait to get to Westfield.
Heal up soon.

Bad luck, James. How old was the kid? Heal up soon!

Heal up James. Did you suggest scooter training to the child?
-
• #1408
Kid was 5 or 6. Having delivered scooter training, they should not be used on the road. The advice is for people to walk them across roads. Child had one minor scrape.
Realised today my jersey was ripped to shreds across the back.
The mums excuse was that she can't control her kids, so she was in no way responsible.
I can barely walk today, currently icing my elbow, hip and groin on rotation. When I move my Tourette's is very much in evidence.

Anything you could have done differently? -

They had stopped at the island having just missed being hit by one car. I had no idea the kid was suddenly going to rush out in front of me.
Next time I could land on the softer option than the road!

Aim for the parent next time, then it will be their problem.

she was protected by the bollards on the island!

I'm ignorant in this field so forgive me, but are kids actions not the responsibility of their parents? If not, whose responsibility is it?

Everybody's. Kids are kids.

My kids know how to cross a road, doesn't stop them doing daft things like relying on the one in front to check for traffic no matter how many times I tell them.

Some advice please.
Just been knocked off my bike by a taxi driver. I was stationary in traffic on oxford street in front of him. 45 degrees to the lane as I had just pulled in from a side street into the gap in front of him and behind a bus. Had been there a good minute or so not moving. The bus starts to pull away and before I can get on and follow I can rammed from behind, knocking me and my bike smack into the floor. I get up and find he is trying to drive away, I stop him. He comes out with some shit like "what were you doing in the road", "why were you in front of me" and "you just pulled in!". I told him to wait, meanwhile traffic behind was very angry. Only damage I could see was my saddle was pointing about 40 degrees out of plane, nothing else. He insisted he had things to do and wanted to drive off but I told him that if I wanted to check the bike for damage and that i would need to call the police and put a claim against him if I did.. Anyways, I'm home now and have noticed the saddle is scuffed, a 2cm tear on the side. And the bar tape is scuffed on one of the drops. Anyways. Took a picture of his plates / license numbers. Got his mobile number. Do I bother? I mean the saddle is structurally, but it annoys me as it was brand new. I'm tempted to give him a call tonight and tell him to replace it and ill go away, otherwise ill put a complaint in and get cctv of the incident and proceed that way.
Rant over. Must calm down.

@Hovis
If he had driven away it would have been a hit and run(a minor crash but if you had been on the floor it's fair to say left for dead/no fucks given as they drove away). Sounds like he stopped and talked a fair bit tho.Have you checked yourself over/been checked? If you are running on adrenaline and stuff it will be tomorrow/later when you are back to normal and a fractured wrist is killing or any bumps/bangs surface. If you are injured try find one of the better people others have used and let them do the work they do.
Ripped saddle I have to be honest he is just going to say it's wear and tear of a bike and it wasn't crash damage. CCTV will prove the crash happened but proving it was what made the tear. Call him next time you are up central and need a cab, they all dodge tax anyway so dropping you somewhere for free isn't outside unreasonable or wait 6 months and then call him saying you need an airport pickup at 3am and a friend gave you the number then let him drive out to gatwick or something for shits and giggles...

@Hovis I would threaten to report him for leaving the scene of a crime - if he is in an accident, and doesn't hand over his details at the time of the accident, it is his legal duty to report it, and provide his details within 24 hours.
Sadly the Police are unlikely to do anything, but I was left hooked by a driver in June who didn't stop - and just got a call that they need a witness statement. Presumably he has been pulled for something else, but he's broken the law so there should be some record made of that.

was in a pub last night idly chatting away when I saw a lady open her door right onto a cyclist, he stayed on his bike but his bag was thrown into the road and run over by a following car.
I went over to make sure he was ok and give my details if he needed them. His hand had taken a nasty crack and had a pretty deep cut in it and had already starting to look a little messed up. The lady was very good and helped him lock his bike and take him to a&e. as she pulled out the car passing her had to emergency stop... clearly her car doesn't have mirrors ffs.

Had 4 incidents in last month.
- Was 100% my foult, was ridig between lanes in traffic, decided to turn right after a van and changed my mind on half way cause didn't have enough veiw of in coming traffic, braked but was late and hit the car in front.
- Was waiting for the green light at junction, was 1 car in front, there was enough room between the car and the cerb. When it turned to green I move by the bap, was on half way to pass the car when it turned left without a signal, I hit his left door, he drove away. No damage no injury. The only thing I was thinking at the moment was rasing after and break his left mirror and the signal lights. But I didn't :-)
- There was a bus in a bus stop and a van behind. I was pretty fast, decided to go between them and the in coming traffic. Took right well before to let the van driver see me. Was about to rich the van when it turnd right and turned the signal lights at the same time. I braked slide left then right, the car coming from the opposite direction braked hard in case the van kicks mo in front of him. I touch the van with my sholder but could keep on bike some how. The van drove away, I riched him at next junction, looked at him, no reaction. Realised that he didn't even notice me al this time.
- There was a car behind a bus under red light in second lane, I was going by first lane when it changed to green and the car turned left and cut my way (no signal again). I braked and some how didn't hit him.
So be careful people and be ready for all kind of unexpected moves from drivers. - List item

I can see you mention braking so you've not signed yourself up to be a fashion victim, but maybe some of the risks you're taking aren't worth it?

So if I understand you right, two of these happened when you were undertaking vehicles at junctions, and they turned left? You know that's probably the single most dangerous thing you can do on a bike? Another one was when you were overtaking a vehicle at a junction and it turned right... maybe you should just hang back at junctions.
Maximum any firm can charge you is 25% of your winnings as it were. Levenes was 15% for mine.
Anyway your experience = fffuuuuuuu
