  • where can you get good ribs in london ? bodeans ? any other places you would recommend ?

  • @dicki My other half raves about the ribs here: http://dukesbrewandque.com/ they have awesome beer too and good sides, the fried pickles are a must.

  • my norwefic ex used to just eat it as it is. it's basically cheese fudge.

    chudge.

You need one of those little spatula cheese slicer thingies. Then you put it on (buttered if you are my grandma) bread sometimes with jam. At least that is what we did. I like it(!) but I don't disagree that it is chudge. I guess I like chudge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpiHjKyJrZc

  • I'll definitely still use a pan when I'm at home, but for work, microwave is more than adequate.

    And
@dicki and @Cazakstan, yeh, Dukes is great. They do a platter thing for about £22 which is the most absurd amount of meat you'll ever encounter, including a beef rib the size of a baby's leg.

  • Pitt Cue in Soho

    Smokehouse in Islington

Ribman is ace, but a bit more rough and ready and not on the bone, but his sauces are the fucking tits.

    Dukes is good too.

Pitt Cue is by far the best I've had.
I didn't find Duke's ribs that great and they were rationing the number of ribs you could order as they were running out (Saturday night). Maybe I'll have to give it another try. Beer and sides were good.

  • I need to try Pitt Cue sometime...

  • You've always got plenty of time on your hands, no? ;)

  • restaurants in W1 that don't take bookings can >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Just went to Blackfoot on Exmouth Market after a long-ago food thread recommendation. They'd run out of porchetta rolls so ended up pissing £30 on unplanned midweek sit-in lunch. Love it when that happens.

Also the food was very good.

I believe that was mine, glad to know I wasn't being delusional...
Good to know you enjoyed it,

  • barcelona - god I ate some good food.

http://www.chezcoco.es/en - Mildly pricey rotisserie chicken, bit posh but unbelivably good. Their gratin's the best I've ever tasted

Sol Soler - Tapas, cheap as all hell but a lot better than it looked, good atmosphere

Picnic - Bit chichi breakfast / brunch place but the french toast was blinding and the overworked waiter was friendly

Caravelle - amazing tacos, nice atmosphere, some craft beer, but shit cocktails but everything else was amazing

  • As if you'd share a dessert that small..

  • Had lunch at Hestons Hind's Head opposite the Fat Duck in Bray. Was pretty tasty stuff, all based on old recipes. Would recommend.

    Ham Hock and Rabbit Tureen
    Chargrilled Mackrel
    Triple Cooked Chips
    Quaking Pudding
    Royal Trifle

  • Damn son, that looks delicious.

  • ten (count 'em) chips?

  • Quaking pudding sounded like a thing, so I looked it up. I found this page: http://www.historicfood.com/English%20Puddings.htm

I wouldn't mind trying the rice pudding 'in skin' but I do not think I could hang with ambergris and musk.

  • I want a course to make them royal pies!

  • Marrow pudding? That sounds like all sorts of delicious wrongness.

  • No need to be snide on the chips... That place is 10mins drive from my house... Bray is a lovely part of the world. Been there a few times, I'm happier having a pint and a world class scotch egg at the bar.

  • From that page:

Slices of plum pudding were placed on a gridiron beneath a roasting joint of beef to toast under the fire and to soak up the gravy.

    Hell yes.
