  • Filing off the cable guides will get you close to track legal

  • so no riding with guides still left on?

  • On Manchester velodrome, all braze ons must be covered with padding securely taped on to be track legal. But to be honest, if you're riding track on it all the time you may as well file them off.

  • With winter is coming, I'm considering getting something to spare my Tonic Fabrication. Kitted out as it is with clip-on mudguards, I'm not inclined to take it out in ice and snow.

As a result, I'm looking into the FXE that comes with the full guards:

    http://www.dolan-bikes.com/dolan-track-bikes/track-bikes/track-aluminium/dolan-fxe-aluminium-fixie-bike-black-gloss.html

My main reservation is that I'd like to run at least 25mm tyres, and maybe even 28.

    My questions therefore are:

Has anyone purchased this particular build of the FXE, and what do you think about it? Particularly interest in what kind of weight the 54cm build is.

Do either of the cheaper wheelsets it comes with (Mach1 and Navigator) play well with 25/28 and indeed, does the frameset/guards even have the clearance for them?

  • FXE/Precursa are usually around 1800g for the frame, I managed around 8.5kg with a standard build (cheap crankset, wheels, etc.).

Defintely will fit 28mm with mudguard, depend on where the rear wheel sit on the track end though, as you might need to add one more link.

  • The Alpina winter fork takes 32c slick with a smile - so 28c with mudguard is possible - the Mach1/Navigator play well with 25/28 tyres.

  • Wonderful. Thanks Ed and Thuekr :)

  • The decals on the Matt Black PC just peeled off...sorry a bit late if you've already sandpapered the frame down..

  • Really? How long have you had it for?

  • Early frames were decals if I remember what email convo with Dolan said. Newer ones sure as shit don't come off easy.

  • I had an earlier frame (matt) and the decals came off but left indents behind. On the later frames they definitely don't peel off.
I removed the seat tube decal by very lightly sanding and wire wooling but it removed some of the shine (which sort of t-cut/polished back) but not good if looking closely.

A few years back you could also get black ones which no decals at all but that is no longer an option.

  • Is the only difference between the FXE and PC the rear brake mount? Or can you not fit mudguards to a PC?

  • Seem to recall the PC I had was drilled for mudguards at the dropouts but didn't have the bridge between the chainstays or it wasn't drilled.

  • 10mm longer chainstay on FXE, no steel inserts on dropouts.

  • a disc almost as big as the wheel with a skinny tyre - front wheel skids/wipeouts a plenty

  • Party in the front yo

  • 26" front? Constant downhill - Must be insane fast.

  • I'm def intimidated

  • Shameless bump, sorry to derail.

Will be selling my 54cm Dolan Pre Cursa (with decals)/Dolan carbon forks which I bought from Dolan bikes late 2013. Standard spec. Navigator Pista wheelset, black Condor (Sugino) Uno cranks, black cockpit and Alpina seatpost and generic saddle. PM if anyone is interested.

  • Got new forks for my TC and took some photos today, real happy with it atm.

  • Looks amazing

  • ^^painted stays or electric tape?

  • The black stays look sick. Ties in nicely with the forks. Really balanced
