Ironman have to pay royalties to Marvel
That's not quite how trademarks work - Ironman triathlon can hardly confused with Iron Man the comic book character.
WTC spokeswoman Blair LaHaye said Ironman does not license rights from any company, including Marvel, and owns the Ironman brand and registered trademarks.

Entertainingly enough, Ironman have to pay royalties to Marvel for using that name for the race.
