Is the a cable guide on the fork? That can help. It's setup usually, try different straddle heights.

If you need a fork mounted cable guide, I have a spare.

not sure what i'll do yet,thanks for the offer, these canti arms are quite wide, so i think i'll look for a compact type

I'm no expert, but I'd try progressively lowering that straddle first. It looks high.

If the fork is drilled a hanger mounted there might be the next step.
