  • But what about in this post https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/253639/?offset=50#comment11788868

Are you inserting these special <arsecake/> tags into my posts? I don't understand the rules.

  • he can't even afford a colour camera....

  • In my example io, has two asterisks at either side of her name, when you put @ asterisk io asterisk, it emphasises io and then can't find @io I was wondering if I could @*io* or something?

    Edit: Ahhh, backslashes work! Cheers

  • I wish you guys would choose shorter tags. typing <arsecake> and <feckface> all of the time is going to be rough.

  • It seems like as soon as you have one @arrowplum <--- space in your post, other @arrowplum'y things in the same post work.

Or maybe they have to be on the same line

  • Do you really need the word "page"? Won't 3456/3458 be obvious at the bottom of the page next to "next" and "previous"?

  • @arrowplum any fake HTML tag works, I'm not sure there is a <z> so that would work.

  • Yes, soz. Joeks, etc. (I noticed you dudes weren't using <realcoolguyeveryonewantstohangoutwith>)

  • I'm not sure what you mean but the total number of pages in the thread is now showing up, which for me is perfect thanks!

  • Just seen this, now understand what happened!

  • Are there plans to have notifications in places other than following?
If someone only looks at the forum view and you @ them, at the moment they don't see anything right?

  • This is true, but new members have their notifications defaulted to email people.

People who were imported didn't, as we're honouring preferences that roughly match what people had in vBulletin.

  • Is there the same issue with messages and the mobile view, in that you'll only see them if you click on the thing that brings the left pane in?

My suggestion (which like the back slashes may work already), would be to have @ appear in messages and for both to cause the button (for the left pane) to change colour?

    @Velocio

  • Ah... I am planning to change that.

I want to make a top row of buttons that is always visible on mobile and can be used at the bottom of the screen too:

Home : Today : Following : [Envelope Icon]

For profiles, search, other menu items, you would still have to access the burger bar.

  • First of all, thank you for all your hard work up to this point and so much of the new platform is awesome. But apologies if this isn't the place for it, and if it's been discussed elsewhere, but I am struggling with the hierarchy of the new forum, especially when it comes to Rides and Races.

I appreciate that giving ongoing rides SPFG, WNKR, etc their own forums, but these are the most consistent rides on LFGSS. That they don't show up in the Rides and Races section doesn't make much sense to me. As we are now encouraged to create an event for each ride within those specific forums, the actual ride itself is buried, or too segregated from the rest of the forum (3 levels deep). Essentially what I'm concerned about is that WNKR, SPFG, and potentially future repeat rides being buried away from those who aren't currently involved. For example, it wouldn't make any sense for all of M3CK's rides to have his own forum. They are popular rides – so they sit in Rides and Races. Why SPFG and WNKR rides/events don't doesn't make any sense to me. It's nice to have a 'thread of one's own' (to bastardise Virginia Woolfe) but I think the current 'own forum' technique is having (or will have) a detrimental effect on new people joining in on rides. For people looking to go on rides, they will look under Rides and Races, yet many rides will never show up there.

Is it possible to: rduplicate (or be a redirect) to the other's forum's events (ie WNKR) so they show up in Rides and Races? Or is it possible to move the WNKR/STFG forums to within Rides and Races forum? From my point of view (taxonomy/librarian) to have the most common rides outside the Rides and Races thread is counter-intuitive.

    Anyway thanks for listening.

  • Just click "events" on the right hand side on the home page.

  • And before you ask... I'm writing the code right now to display which events are within which forum.

And after that... I'm going to make events be sortable by "upcoming" and "recent"... so that you can see the next ride, and the last.

  • I realise Persona is beyond your control and the problem is at my end (I've waited a couple of days to see if anyone is having similar problems, which they aren't) but hopefully you'll have an idea what's going on.

In short, I get signed-out immediately after signing-in.

I haven't been able to get No Script to work seamlessly with Persona despite adding it to the whitelist: after logging into Gmail I usually get a cross-scripting error and have to do an unsafe reload. Sometimes I will get signed straight in, but eight times out of ten I get the error.

I have been asked how long I would like to stay signed-in for, on perhaps only three occasions.

This I can live with, but not staying signed-in is new.

After log-in I go to, eg, the Following page without a problem, but whether I open a link in a new tab or on the same page, I am logged-out and have to sign-in again.

This only happens once and I don't have a problem for the rest of the session.

  • Probably already been asked, but I'm not going to scroll through millions of pages on my phone at work. Why does the forum link say 'following' but the url say 'updates'?

  • Woo. Quotes are getting better - on Firefox 31.0 now if I highlight and copy then hit reply it automatically puts it in as a quote. Not if I just highlight. But not having to type > and cmd+V is still something :)

  • The site now looks LOADS better on IE8 (Win XP). I Can see avatars again!

It's been renamed a few times.

    • Notifications
    • Following
    • Updates
    • Subscriptions

    None is perfect.

The page isn't just updates to the stuff you're following, nor just notifications about when you've been @mentioned or replied to... and so none of the titles were perfect.

The URL stopped changing but we carried on changing the title until it was least offensive to all... people seemed to grok "Following" and not so much "Updates".

  • font size seems to be very slightly larger when viewed in https rather than http

although if I try the site in IE and not logged in then both seem the same....
