Subtle changes, bugs and feedback

  • Basically... do you see this error immediately when you view a single page and reply... or do you do anything else between viewing the page and replying?

From the following page, I open all the conversations with new content in separate tabs, before replying to any of them.

So that would seem to be the problem: I'll just refresh the page if it happens in future.

Incidentally, I tried to quote from your post by highlighting the text and hitting reply (which has been working, when it initially didn't), but it didn't work: I had to copy - hit "quote" - paste.

And this post, doesn't appear as a response to yours...

  • And this post, doesn't appear as a response to yours...

Click reply would've made that happen.

This seems to be a multi-line issue (also happens to lines with links in, so may be a multi-element issue). I'm aware of it and will look at it shortly.

  • Even allowing for my crap eyes I find that small, grey text used for quotes really difficult to read. On a desk top, I never look at the forum on a phone.

  • Judging by how dark your polo B&W shots came out, your screen is too bright and needs calibrating.

  • I've spoken to the Persona team on numerous occasions over the last 18 months.

None of what you've said is unknown to us.

@Velocio has already pointed out why we're using it and plans for the future.

  • @Velocio Thinking about forums... I like the idea that people can make as many forums as they like and these will automatically order themselves based on popularity, with the ability to hide forums of no interest... My thought was would it be feasible for people to "sticky" forums themselves? for example I like to read the microcosm forum which is currently on page 2, but often forget it is there, so it would be great to get it onto page 1, but don't want to ignore other forums to do so.

    Does that make any sense?

  • @WillMelling if this is the case I've got a calibrator you can borrow.

  • It makes a hell of a lot of sense to allow people to favourite a forum and have that factor into the sort order.

Hell, it makes sense to favourite things in forums too, and for those to be at the top.

We just haven't yet built such a thing.

  • Perfect, figured it would be on the roadmap somewhere

  • Ben: I assume Emyr was being funny. Or as close as he ever gets. Forever alone.

  • See, that one is far more balanced. Rules out my theory.

PEBKAC is still an option though.

  • prob been raised and not a biggy at all - but are there plans to bring the white border back as opposed to the black? At first i thought it was a sub for the logo turning black, but now i realise it isn't. It just feels a bit dark.

Anyway, great work and congrats with the new forum, think it's tip-top.

Edit.....sorry, i've just read the 'the grey stays' comment on the previous page.

  • So - now it's App time. Using the "mail client" inside Instagram has shown itself as a powerful, instant and easy way of keeping a conversation for up to 15 people invited. When you create this mail, the people who are on your invited list gets an icon on the top of their phone and when there is a new conversation inside the thread, you'll get a notification too.

You need to make some sort of app to make LFGSS more notification-snappier, geared towards topic reply notifcation mostly (PM is not the dealbreaker, but necesary as well) - email notification is such a blitz from the past and a mail client is not something the huge teenage segment uses anymore 'aint nobody got time for that'.

[on average only 3% of all the mails you receive is relevant for you, the rest is caught and filtered elsewhere dependent on your spamfilter settings].

  • definitely no glow or drop shadow.

    This.

I think it all looks pretty ok right now, though I wish the background wasn't as bright.
    Who needs this much contrast.

It would be cool if one could minimize the grey bar on the right; it takes up a lot of space, and is pretty useless.

I really miss the old "[quote="username"] and multi-quote functionality.
Happens a lot of times that I read a post, think "wtf is he talking about", then I see the tiny "in reply to.." above it.
When you're having a discussion on something with a couple of peoople, over a couple of days / pages, the "old way" was much more clearly laid out.

  • @Velocio Can the 'Forums' page be made into a single page instead of requiring paging? I'd like all the sections to be on the current page so I can CTRL-F to quickly find the forum I want.

  • I think this has been mentioned but maybe not this solution
On mobile, when you click today, you get a list of threads and who started them, regardless of how old they are. For new threads that is good, but for older threads last comment by would be more useful. Is it possible to make a rule so a post over 50 replies says last poster, and those under says thread starter?

This assumes you have no plans to add both which I may have missed.

  • Is there a way to @ people who have markdown in their names?
    For example * io *

Markdown doesn't work in usernames, it just shows as plain punctuation.

If you mean "people who use anything other than 0-9 and A-Z"... for the entirety of those that use emoji, Eastern characters, etc... then unless you can type those characters you won't be able to @mention them.

If someone has specifically chosen to use obscure unicode in their username (i.e. the character) then this is their choice to have made themselves unmentionable, uninvitable, and even to prevent being granted permission to private usergroups.

Indeed, such a person could only even be PM'd by using the link on their profile page.

  • I think if you use a possessive the @ notification doesn't work. For example @Velocio's name won't be linked here.

The @mention code starts with the @ and ends at the first space.

Punctuation is a valid part of a profile name in many cases, i.e. the name O'Riordan

So punctuation is included in checks for usernames.

  • I like having navigation at the top and bottom of the page (mobile, iOS iPhone 4) but it strikes me that the page number entry box is useless without context. Ie it should say xxx of xxx, so you can see at a glance where you are in the thread.

  • Or I guess any punctuation. Do you know who is getting annoyed by me? @Velocio.

I take that back. Periods work.

  • Is there space for it?

    Check this page: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/127119/?offset=89025

Let me know where you would like to see the additional phrase, how much space remains, and how you would modify it.

You can do a possesive @ using the little known arsecake html tag:

    @arrowplum's things

    (that's @arrowplum<arsecake>'s things)

  • <feckface> also works.
