  • To do:
    Black spacer.
    Replace missing front spoke.
Black XT M770 pedals from other bike, maybe M530 for the surrounding rail.
Stick-on hose guides for the fork.
Swap SLR Team for SLR XC if I can find one cheap.
Gear back down from 34x15 to 34x16.
    Ride more.
    SSUK2014 Cannock September 5th - 7th.

  • Don't bother with an SLR XC, they're really slippery which makes them shit off road in the wet IMO

  • I've used an XC for polo, but I'm not using the same shorts on my current SLRs as I was on the XC, so had no reference to compare with.

  • Looks good! What's the weight ended up like?

  • Not bad! My 29er is still comfortably in double figures.

Although I have lost weight since January which is a plus!

  • I'm looking for 3T finishing kit. 120mm ARX stem; 44cm Rotundo bars. If anyone has any in decent condition, please shout.

  • ^I've got an acetoned 110mm (I'll double check) ARX stem without bolts and blacked-out ergonovas if they are of any use?

  • I've got a 100mm Milennium (34mm, 2 bolt plate) and 110mm Milennium 4ever (36mm, 4 bolt plate) I could be persuaded to part with.

  • Winterising my spare commuter:

    • Om nom noms
    • 28c Duranos
    • TRP Spyre on front (CX77 too wide for mudguard stay)
    • Some SKS mudguards I bought ages ago and have forgotten the name of

Got a single speed Novatec rear hub to build up for a wheel with less dish. Considering a 9mm thru for the front as I can get a bit of rotor rub when putting a lot of force on the handlesbars.

  • Found an 853 frame in gf size... It's lovely, few tiny jobs to do... Mudguards, rack, maybe a different fork.

  • ...Some fender mounts on Enve. Works great. Very happy with the result.

  • who by, what costs?

  • ^ Same again here, been wondering how much that would cost.

  • I saw that one, may fit me but non original fork out me off. Ianal. Thorns are great! She'll love it.

  • I need a winter bike, anyone fancy swapping my '92 Serotta with full period Dura Ace for something modern and boring that can take mudguards?

  • Rogan & AngelD

I did the mounts. What it did cost? Basicly nothing. Ok, I was too tired to braze the actual mounts and I didin't have gas on my torch, so I get the mounts brazed and that cost me like £15. Rest I loaned from frend's and so on. I glued the mounts to the fork with 3M panel bonding adheisive (same stuff that it used to glue non structural car panels. Roofs, door panels and so on) Next step was adding carbon fiber to the mix. They might just hold only with the adheisive, but because carbon fiber was available I give it a shot. - So I just basicly added carbon fiber (rovings) over the glueded mounts. When that was dried, I just shaped them way I liked with body kit.

  • So you just kind of tossed it off, like.

    good work

  • 10/10 for skills.

    Way beyond my craftsmanship.

  • Finished my functional build for southern Spain, aim is to be cheap (parts-bin), somewhat robust and somewhat suitable to get around the mountains, a mix of lovely new EU funded tarmac and a lot of far rougher roads too. Seems to work ok so far.

  • middle one has stack of 42mm but the bolts are more central. 170g.

  • that looks great ridin' country

  • Yeah it's really nice, in the Sierra Nevada region (more pics here) around the high villages and valley towns. This build is partly cheap just to get a feel of what I want to ride around here, there's plenty of trails and mountain bike routes too but I wanted to start on the nice roads (which happen to require passing through some rough roads first). So for now I'm testing the waters but I may double up with something for the trails only, or eventually go with something more cyclocross like if the need arises.
